We call them gophers, but they are Columbia ground squirrels. Cousin to the prairie dog. I trap and shoot a metric chit ton every year.

I seen a ton of those at Glacier natl park laat week.
Idiots were feeding them cheetos and pretzels.
I wasn't very popular after uttering out loud my desire to level a group of the varmints with a load of #6. 😄

Many years ago I was at Nat. Guard summer camp at Gowen Field in Boise. The whole base had ground squirrels every where.That year we had a battalion from somewhere in the south, SC or GA maybe, training with us. Most of those guys had never seen them before. They started calling them Go Downers because every time you saw one it was going down. The name stuck with the Idahoans. For years, everyone in the guard called them go-downers.
