I'd like to see this forum. As soon as I figure out the new way to post pictures I'd like to contribute.

Here's my little hunting cabin...a 14x20 with a loft and an outhouse, no power other than a generator, out in the woods near the Helena National Forest in Montana.

There are a lot of issues with a place not heated most of the time. Freezable drain traps are but one. Any water lines have to be drained, or better, blown out with air.
Off grid would be something else, depending how basic you like it.

My hunting and fishing cabin on the Oregon Coast complete with butchering shop, winch, cleaning sinks and clothes dryer in the garage...I’m lucky having a comfortable bed to sleep in after each days hunt...A hot shower, warm fire, great food and a stocked liquor cabinet for pain reduction...I also have the 12x14 outfitter tent available for those out of state hunts. But nothing beats hunting in the wicked coastal environment than a hunting cabin,

There are a few mostly dead forums that could be 86'd to make room.

I'd certainly enjoy it. Some very talented tradesmen on the 'Fire.

I have seen cabins that can be delivered to your location.

Nice eye! Yep, Montana Mobile Cabins built (and delivered) my cabin. They're a local place sorta between Bozeman and Butte, nicest people around and they do great work. I don't even remember how I found them, but after I bought some land I stopped by their construction yard and talked to the owners (Kip and Dawndi) and walked through a few cabins they were building. It took all of about 30 seconds to place an order that was built over the next 9 months. They've been amazing throughout, and after there was a wildfire that came to about 100 yards from the cabin last year, they were the first to let me know about it (I wasn't in Montana at the time) and then they came out to inspect the cabin for any heat damage and did some repairs on chinking that was damaged.

It might be more of a definition problem. That is stretching my concept of a cabin. It is very nice, though!

First off, thank you for the kind words. I agree it is more of a house than a cabin, but the thread title was house & cabins.
I like the spirit of this thread and would be happy to answer any questions from others about doing it yourself, things to avoid, things I would do different etc....
It is a very rewarding endeavor and I would highly recommend building your dream home/cabin.
Who doesn't dream about a cabin in the woods? I recommend a website called "cabin porn" good way to kill some time and dream.

I will bend your ear a time or two in the near future. If this thread gets legs and Rick makes it a subsection, I will post questions at you about structure ideas...If not, I will just send you PM’s for your thoughts and ideas. Thanks for your willingness to help all with questions...Mark 😎
