I want to trade a gun for another gun. It will be ffl to ffl . But I wanted to ask what other steps do I need to take to make sure it’s an easy transaction without any headaches?

Thank you.

If it’s ffl to ffl, why would you even ask?

Do you even understand what you are asking????

No offense meant but starting to smell like a fishing expedition.

Do what your FFL tells your to do. That’s why your paying them.

And exactly how, is swapping DL pics gonna help??? FWIW, between gun transactions and picking up big rig loads, there's probably at least a few thousand copies of my DL stuffed in file cabinets around the country...DL isn't schitt, it's your SSN that you want to protect.

I think you are on the right track and doing it as safely as can be done. FFL to FFL. Send your gun out to his FFL, direct his FFL NOT to give him your gun unless he's sent out your gun. Speak to each other to the point there is a level of trust (as much as can be) Exchange pictures so you know what you are getting, and go for it. Even then things can come up, discuss it in advance to determine how issues will be taken care of.

I just received a Ruger revolver last night from an outfit on gun broker. It was a Ruger Security Six. Most people don't look but after confirming it wasn't loaded I pulled the trigger, held the trigger back and looked through the space between the cylinder and the firewall. No firing pin. I looked it over, pulled the hammer partially back and pushed on the transfer bar. It moved and showed some firing pin. I know what happened. It had been reblued. Reblue a gun means taking it apart. When they put it back together they didn't get it right. Things happen. I wasn't wanting a reblued gun but I'm not a collector so it doesn't matter as long as it's functional.

I don't believe for a minute it was their intention to send a faulty gun. But things do happen. Decide before it happens how it will be dealt with.

1. have something someone would trade for
2. negotiate price difference
3. go to ffl, if you want one involved, they will handle paperwork

If your trade is with an ffl, just sign his forms, one into his log, one for a purchase.

That pretty much covers it. He will charge you a fee to ship your gun, and a fee to receive the other gun. He will take care of the rest.
