There are lots of high passes through the Rockies with some fantastic scenery. Idaho is on the western slope and the divide borders us north of Yellowstone It doesn't come through. I think our highest paved pass is around 9500'. That can still make a lowlander suck some air but it's nothing like 11 or 12k.

That looks like a great drive with scenery unmatched. Did the guy driving the Miata get a complex having to keep up with a Corvette and T-bird?

I always look forward to your posts Shrapnel. 👍

I was there last summer. Freaking awesome place. We left Red Lodge and it was in the upper 70's and went into Yellowstone. On the way back it started to drizzle and then sleet on top. It went down into the 30's. The snow fields were amazing for this easterner in the beginning of August. My family felt a little closer to God up there! For those that live in Montana, you are are a blessed bunch. That was my 3rd visit and I ain't done.

Not quite so good on a piece of construction equipment. I heard they lost a Caterpillar when the road was being built. We went looking to see if we could find it. We did find it but it wasn’t a Caterpillar, it was a steam roller...

Wife on top of Monarch Pass a few years ago. Nice view from up there but there's no air to breathe.

When I was at the top of Beartooh it was mid-July and there was snow up to my knees at the top across from the parking area Sharp took the pics from.

Last summer, following my wife's phone directions, we went over a high gravel road pass in Colorado.after dark. If that wasn't fun enough, we heard several loud pops from the back of her car. Turned out to be her canned salsa jars blowing the seals!

There's probably a lot of truth in that,......but Rocky Mountain National Park and the area around it is pretty good.

Last time we were there we stayed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. I can't recommend spending the money to stay there. It's expensive and the rooms are pretty basic.

But the bar and the restaurants there are top notch and not all that expensive.

I need to get back out there.
