I'll be on the big Island Oct 18th-23 and am interested in wandering around the shore line casting an 8 wt at pretty much anything I can't catch in Utah. I've done a fair amount of Salt water fishing for an inland guy but know nothing about the fly fishing opportunities in Hawaii. As for rods I've got 6,7,8,10 wt rods I can bring but as this is not a dedicated fishing trip I'm thinking an 8 should be about right for a 1 rod trip. any ideas on flies, areas, species etc would be very welcome.

I cannot really offer any suggestions, but when I was out and about at night over there I was amazed at the numbers and size of fish I saw in the shallows with the aid of shoreline street lights. If I do a go back, I'm going to try some late PM casting.

Good luck,
