Looking for a new or used scope suggestion, price range as far under $100 as possible.

Ruger 10/22 to be used as a 25-100 yard plinker for some kids.
Trim, inexpensive, plinker scope.

Would like something with a duplex reticle, and I'd pay a tad more for a fine duplex.
No bdc/mildot/etc. No turrets.

Small, low, and lightweight to fit the lines of a 10/22... no large x42's. I'd prefer to get it low to match the combination of lower comb drop of the ruger and smaller face of a kid.

Something i dont have to watch the classifieds for... I'd like to be able to buy it.

Fixed 4x or 6x would be great, if possible.

I am clueless as to whats out there in the sub $100 category, there seems to be a LOT. Which ones dont suck too much?

I figured I'd ask here because you guys know [bleep], and IME that's a resource in short supply lately.

Thanks a ton.

Oh. and easy enough to get behind. I have a 4x20 as a kid and it had an eyebox measured in fractions of a mm!

How about the basic Brunton 3-9x40 Plex we have for $29.99?

I think it is a bit more than $100, but I've had good luck with Weaver Rimfire 2.5-7x28. Also, Burris makes a rimfire version of their 2-7x35.

I'm not a Nikon lover but their 4X rimfire was a good deal. I think they have been discontinued.

Unless it's for Target work, a Weaver 4X would work despite the parallax being set for longer range.

I had a small 4 x 20 scope. I upgraded to one of Doug's Minox 3 x 9 x 40. It sure helped my aging eyes.

The Weaver RV7 is a nice size for a 10/22 carbine, 2-7x28, I have a couple of the on mannlicher stocked 10/22s.

Another option is the Nikon ProStaff Shotgun scope, which is a 2-7x32.

As previously noted, 10/22s are notorious scope killers.

Hmm. For your intended use, look at the Simmons 22Mag Rimfire 4x scope at Midwayusa.com. $35.99, ships free.Product #267844.

Up to you, I have had 2 Simmons 22mags. One was OK and one was junk right out of the box.

I had a Bushnell Trophy XLT 1.75-4 w/ circle-x on a 10/22 and a 581 until I replaced it with a K6. Nice little scope, built tough for use on shotguns. Fine crosswire in center circle and parallax set short. Low end is good for offhand, close shooting. Usual retail was over $100, but have seen them for $50 or so at Natchez. Not sure if they're still in the line, but worth looking for.

A buffer rod might be worth looking into to soften the bolt whack on that Ruger. I had one in mine, and got the impression it helped.

EDIT: CDNN has the Bushy for $80.

Have a 3x9-33 Leupold with the parallax adusted to 50 yds on a 10-22... Thousands of rounds later, still zeroed.

I put a 2-7x BSA on my 10/22 plinker/small game gun in 1997 figuring "it's good enough for now until I can get something a lot better". Turns out I decided to leave it on and it's still going strong. Works fine for what I do with it even though most of my other scopes are Leupolds. It's not a Leupold but for an el-cheapo scope I've actually gotten to like it. I never knew that 10/22's eat scopes but I guess my 10/22 doesn't find cheap BSA's very appetizing. The only caveat I can think of is that this scope is now 21 years old and I don't know if the BSA quality level has changed since then. So I'm gonna follow the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" rule and just leave this one on. IIRC it was also rated for airguns and 22's so perhaps the internals are a little stronger?

For a trim scope on a 10-22 for kids I think an affordable shotgun scope would work well.

1-5x would keep the field of view large and the scope size small.

The parallax would be set for 50-75 yards which would be perfect too .

Got a Weaver K4 4x38 on mine. It works well for me and the kids. I've seen recommendations for the Redfield Revolution 2-7x33. I think I saw they may be closing them out so you might find a good price

I’ve refinished several middle-aged coworkers’ childhood .22 rifles in past few years.

As part of the process I had them get the $29.97 4x32 Bushnell Rimfire for me to install on their rifles, because the irons weren’t working for them anymore!

I’d zero them for bulk 36 Fed HP at 30 yards. All the big kids were delighted.

Upside for actual kid hard knocks use is they’re cheap to replace if broken...
