Will be headed to Broadus, MT the fist week of Nov. to deer hunt. I've started looking at OnX maps but between the Custer and all the BLM and state blocks I'm struggling on narrowing my options. Since I won't be there for the opener I figure any BLM with easy road access will have been pressured. Looking at the Custer I'm dividing it into thirds and trying to decide where to focus, north of 212, 212 south to 15 mile road, or south of 15 mile.
Can anyone familiar with the area give me some insight to narrow my online scouting. Not asking for specific spots, just general insight.

I'd like to see a response to this also. I pulled a MT general tag, planning to be out there the second week of Nov. Might not get as far west as Broadus but then again I might. Volborg anyone?

While researching areas to hunt this area was also on my "must do". Beautiful country for sure!

Seems several of us are interested in the area, but no input from anyone experienced with the area. My hunting party just changed their departure plans so I my head out on my own the opening week. Problem with that is if you are not going to camp out, where do you stay. I can't find a hotel any closer than an hour and a half away. May be time to break out the tent.

My party hunted Custer NF last November. We went 4 for 4 on muley bucks. Nice country, lots of game. I recommend the onX hunt app as there is private land interspersed in the National forest. Many of those private tracts are enrolled in the block management program, so you may want to look into those also. If you're headed out in November, be prepared for extremely muddy road conditions. If you encounter frozen ruts in the early morning, use caution, by 10am you'll need to chain up..

Thanks jj.
As it stands now I'm going to start hunting on October 24. I have OnX on my phone and iPad and have already been trying to scout from the couch.

I like it tzone. Used it in CO a couple years ago to be sure I stayed on the ranch I was hunting. Used it last year's to pre-scout KS walking in access areas. Worked out real well.

This onX thing looks awesome as heck! Sure could have used that in the ND badlands instead of trying to follow out dated paper maps!

Be warned. You’ll be busy with them for the better part of a day. Pick a rainy day. Thank me later! Lol

Awesome! Congrats!

If you get that meat on ice ASAP, it will be the best wild game you've ever eaten.
