my neighbor is a young entreprenuer. he works for himself in the pressure washing business.

the other day he was complaining about a pet peeve.

in short he has noticed the shift in markets between mass produced beer and the craft beer movement.

we actually have a craft brewery newly opened in our county. they're popping up everywhere.

but, here's his complaint in a nutshell. he thinks the twist off caps of mass produced beer is harder to open?

that is, the caps are installed more tightly than in the past. do you find this to be true?

maybe it's a new safety reg by the usda, or maybe it's imagination, or maybe the capping machinery isn't adjusted correctly?

anyways, this could indicate the development of a significant new challenge for joe six-pack to face?

is my neighbor onto something significant? as a hint or clue, he loves his zastava pistol w/30 shot mag.

Mostbeer recalls are due to glass chipping from over tightened caps. Press or twist.
I would assume smaller companies purchase smaller Machinery that's probably less precise.

If getting the cap off his beer is a challenge he’s got other issues ...

I don't drink beers at all but I will take time out of my day to venture a guess , your neighbor is a wuss.

with beer having traveled with us humans for some time before the egyptians built the pyramids, we now construct billion dollar plants to automate the process.

some folks think beer as we know it is a modern product.

but it does seem that beer bottle tops are a little harder to remove than in times past.

at least we don't need a church key to puncture the steel canned Schlitz like was once mandatory.

if mass-produced beer markets are in a decline, and craft beer is on the increase, is that a sign of the tipping point?

Wouldn't be too concerned unless he says he's having problems with twist-off caps on his wine.

Possibly. I mean, if you get that many Marines on Guam all twisting caps in the same direction.

First hit in persiandog's Google link was an in depth report by the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. A big issue in SD right after crop yields I guess. We do have nine reservations in the state.

thank you persian dog. the intricacies and nuances of the beer business never cease to amaze.

we once got along with village production for hundreds or even thousands of years.

nowadays, the usda & others have an important role to play.

the un will probably register their presence.

we're no longer driving our father's oldsmobile.

Did they? There are many mysteries here on Urth. Perhaps the Pyramids (and beer) are much older than the Dynastic Egyptians..... Something to ponder the next time you pop a top.

why yes. thank you for sharing, and for the update.

the best we have in the way of available education can sometimes go a long ways.

most of my ancestors were more into barley & rye before coming to america and learning about corn.

i think my neighbor's concern is more about whether modern mfg technology is becoming more difficult to live with?

that is, selling homemade beer without licenses, inspections & stamps are probably a no-go?

and by extention, in many areas so is home grown milk.

and livestock of all kinds such as pork & chickens.

but, i digress, we were talking about beer?
