My friend was in a restaurant with his wife.
They got home and she realized she left her purse in the booth.
They called and were told the police were notified and my friends wife was charged with a gross misdemeanor.

Max 1 year in jail and $3,000 fine. I was not sympathetic.
Sympathy is in the dictionary under s right between [bleep] and syphilis.

What do you guys think?
She had a license to carry concealed by the way.

An ex-girlfriend did the exact same thing in 2001. She had just started carrying and had not found a holster yet she liked. Was at the grocery store and when she put the groceries in the car she left the purse in the kiddie seat...got home and she had a call from the police... A customer found the purse and turned it in to the Service Counter...they opened it, saw Kimber and called the police...

They were very nice about it...gun never went in her purse again...

...and Moose...you may want to read the post again...it wasn't the fact she was carrying...it was because she left the purse with the gun in it in the restaurant...read before you rant.

Lots of people are pressured into carrying when they shouldn't be carrying.

Or hunting.

Or fishing.

Empathy? Absolutely. Schit happens.

Well I think you're an [bleep] and one of the duller crayons in this box.

First, people make mistakes. Second, licensed CC is so commonplace today that only a total needle-dick would get excited about a handgun in a purse.

That’s lame as $hit. Violating the statute was only wrongful by virtue of the statute itself and not by a consequence or something inherently/morally wrong. Congrats for get excited over written “rules”.

Police should have returned the gun to her as soon as they knew it was hers.

That would probably get you in trouble in Texas. I think abandoning a gun where a child is able to access it is against the law here. If you're going to carry, you have a responsibility to carry safely and keep track of the weapon. Leaving a gun in a restaurant is scary.

I haven't left an LCP sitting in the latrine of a bar.

Yet....

People leave the cars running to run into a convenience store and you can do a lot more damage with a car. She should not be charged. If you are going to look in a purse to find the ID and see a gun why not still get the ID and try to call her? Put it in a safe place and wait for her to come back and get it. If she doesn't then call the police. It is just a gun. If we taught gun safety in schools maybe it would take the "OH MY GOD, ITS A GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!" away from the clueless

My best friend's mother was a cop (deceased). She was in a grocery store, when an armed robbery occurred. She was a juvie officer and seldom ever needed her gun except to qualify, but she was required to have it with her, and she did. (At the bottom of a large purse). She tried, but could not get it out of her purse, due to too much stuff, and ended up using the purse itself as a weapon. That heavy duty revolver nearly split his skull. She dropped him in his tracks, but she never heard the end of the laughter for the rest of her career. She stopped purse carrying.

Edit: it was even mentioned at her funeral.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

My point is why can't she carry in a restaurant? Because nothing bad ever happens there?
