1949 Model 70 in .257 Roberts
Leupold M8 3x harvested from another gun now sits on very affordable low aluminum Talley's from Cabelas. Did not know if the Talley's would fit as they were not marked "pre-64." But bore sighting it at home across the living room it is zeroed in within 2" and the bolt clears the rear bell.

I expect 1" groups at 100 yards

"1" groups at 100", with a 3x? Your eyes are much better than mine. I have faith that that old rifle shoots well too. Let us know how she does for you. I wish I knew whether a group consists of 3 shots, 5 shots or 10 shots.. If you ask some guys "it's not a group unless you fire at least 5 shots"... You're good at posting pics, I want to see them... cool. Good luck with the old Bob...

Nice rig! I like 3x, 4x and 6x Leup's. If that first cold bore shot hits it's mark, You'll be eating blackstrap for supper. What loads are you using?

Nice looking rifle. If you flip those rings around you would get wider ring spacing. Should be a bit stouter set up, although it probably isn't truly important.

When trying to shoot groups, the right target can make things a bit easier, especially with a lower powered scope.

Gundoc7: That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the pictures posted of Bushmaster1313's very handsome Rifle.
I always mount my scopes with the most possible distance between rings.
Its been so many years since I shot any of my 257 Roberts pre-64 Model 70's - once they got really valuable I went out and bought a Ruger Model 77 in 257 Roberts (followed later by a Ruger #1 in 257 Roberts) and shot them.
Those pre-64 Model 70's in 257 Roberts were/are (?) real shooters though.
No recoil and a good heavy gun for stability when aiming.
I once shot a 5 shot group (at 100 yards) just under one inch with one of my 257 Model 70's but I had a newish to the market then, 3x9 Leupold scope on it.
I also doubt that I could do that today with a 3 power scope and these 71 year old eyes.
Scope is off of it that 257 pre-64 now and it just sits in a gun safe in my gun vault room appreciating in value.

Great rifle and one of my favorite scopes......I also would reverse the rings to take advantage of that long tube.

Got mine from a dealer several years back at market price. Not sure if it is appreciating. But it will be appreciated more the more I shoot it.
