Soros foundation to quit Hungary by end of August

Budapest (AFP) - The foundation run by US billionaire George Soros said Thursday that the last of its operations in Hungary would cease by August 31, with its activities being transferred to Berlin.

The Open Society Foundations (OSF) announced in May that it was leaving Hungary, citing what it called the "repressive" policies of nationalist firebrand Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

"There are still some colleagues working here in the office, but we will have closed for good by 31 August," the OSF spokesman in Budapest Daniel Makonnen told AFP.

In an interview with the 168ora weekly, the head of OSF operations in Hungary, Katalin Koncz E., said she felt bad about the move.

"I have to put an end to 25 years' work and watch as an institution I've spent my life building becomes a desert -- everyone is clearing away their things and my colleagues are disappearing."

She indicated that she herself would stay in Budapest, adding: "I take comfort in knowing that a brilliant office and great conditions are awaiting my friends in Berlin, where they will be able to take up the work with fresh energy."

In April, Orban won a landslide victory in an election that handed him a third straight term as prime minister, and he has since indicated he wants to use this mandate to intensify his anti-migrant, nationalist and culturally conservative agenda.

Anti-immigrant rhetoric was a key part of Orban's election campaign and his government accuses Soros of using his organisations to orchestrate immigration and undermine the cultural and religious identity of Europe. Soros denies this.

In June, Hungary passed the controversial "Stop Soros" law, which includes a punishment of up to a year in prison for anyone assisting someone who enters the country illegally.

The EU is taking legal action against Hungary over the law and its failure to resolve previous complaints over its treatment of asylum seekers.

In a recent speech Orban railed against "undemocratic" Western Europe states and branded the European Commission a "symbol of failure".

"The Stop Soros laws have started being applied recently, and in the so-called 'transit zones' those arriving from Serbia are automatically denied the right to claim asylum and are put into an explusion regime," Andras Lederer of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, a group providing free legal aid to asylum seekers, told AFP.

"They can appeal against this regime but during that time they don't receive any food, even the women and children," Lederer added.

Orban - I love this guy!

My wife is Hungarian. Orban is a helluva leader, a real man. Soros is a national disgrace. If he would have stuck around Hungary and experienced firsthand the yoke of communism he may not have turned out quite so "progressive" in his thinking.

Hungary is on a decreasing list of countries in Europe that I will consider travel to and Orban and his policies are the reason why. (Still) a beautiful country if you ever have a chance to visit it.

Good. He should be shunned by every nation. In fact, he needs arresting and to be tossed in prison.

One thing, though, is that there are reasons enough to hate this guy other than to call him a Nazi collaborator. He was a little kid at the time, and really can't be held responsible for anything he did in that context. He's evil enough in his own right without having to make up silly things like that to hold him to account for.

I suspect that whole angle of criticism is a product of Jewish groups trying to obfuscate the fact that he's Jewish so that resentment of him doesn't become, on the part of the goyim, resentment of organized Jewry in general.

He was fourteen years old.Every legitimate society has deemed the age of reason,the ability to determine right from wrong,to be seven.He knew what he was doing.He was being paid to show the Nazi's where the Jews were living and hiding,while he masqueraded as a Catholic.

He claimed in an interview with 60 Minutes that "Those were the happiest days of his life.That's also where he learned the value of money".He was a Nazi collaborator in every sense of the term.

Am somewhat surprised Mossad hasn't offed him.

That is surprising.

It's also rather mystifying that he hasn't been targeted by any number of nations in which he has meddled with their internal affairs,especially financial matters.

The conflict between Soros and Netanyahu is strictly a conflict between brothers who have the same long term objectives (pro-Israeli), but who disagree as to the means of arriving there. Ultimately, a Jew's loyalty is for his fellow Jews, first and foremost, despite disagreements. Soros is a big contributor to Israeli causes. He just doesn't approve of the Netanyahu regime.

Funny, couple of posts back it was pointed out that he wasn't.

Pretty sure you lot are giving him too much credit, he appears to me to be just another that has crawled over the bodies of the dead for profit.

And the good part is the refugees leave HUNGARY Hungry. They said they don't feed them while they wait for transportation out of country.

They are not refugees, they are invaders.

Both camps within the conflict are advancing the same objective, only by slightly different means.

That said, the things people like Soros do to advance those objectives are so objectionable to the goyim (once their eyes are opened) who are its victims, that Jewry as a whole is quite happy for most not to associate him with Jewry, even though they're happy with his efforts. So his being branded as a Nazi collaborator is helpful to them in this respect. Before this became a meme, he was presented to us as a Holocaust survivor.
