We are looking at trading in my wifes 2015 tahoe for a new 2018 SR5 Premium 4runner. My tundra has been awesome so far and thus leading us to look at a 4runner for her. This one has the third row seating and fake leather. Any reason not to look at a 4runner?

This will be my wifes daily driver and our family "vacation" car, however we do get snow and bad weather her in Idaho and she will need to drive over mountain passes when going up to hunting camp that can get a bet tricky with bad weather. I realize there are other options with better fuel economy, but my wife works 2.5 miles from our house and drives 5-6000 miles a year - not too concerned with it. I do really like the fact of the raised stance and higher ground clearance compared to say an explorer or even the tahoe she has now.

Overall in size, is there a big difference between the 4runner and tahoe?

I have a 2018 4Runner TRD Offroad w/ 10k miles on it. I spent most of Jan. and Feb. in ID., Mt. and WY. w/ plenty of driving on icy roads. The vehicle is well balanced and easy to drive on snowy/icy roads w/ the right tires. This is 4Runner number 4 and all have been super dependable and perfect for hwy. and trail driving. My favorite vehicle of all time.

We've got a 2018 SR5 4runner. Love it. Still have the 2003 I bought new and it is still going strong. Can't go wrong with one. We needed room for a dog box in back so no use for the 3rd row seat.

I have a 2018 SR5 Premium, and it is super nice. I am getting 21.8 mpg (calculated on fuely.com) on the first 6000 miles, mostly rural 55 mph. Really comfortable. I have had many new cars in my life, and this is at the top. My wife loves it. Mine is white and tan fake leather. Stays clean.
Moon roof is really nice, and if you lower the rear window a few inches the noise is reduced and the air flow is nice. That is the biggest surprise. Dogs like that too.

My wife went from a 2003 Yukon XL (think Suburban) to a 2018 Highlander AWD. Second choice was 4Runner, but it was easy to pick the Highlander since I have a 2017 Tundra when we need more cargo space. The Highlander is roomier, rides better, and handles better than the 4Runner. Highway MPG is a lot better too, but that wasn't too important to us.

If we didn't have the Tundra or other 4x4, a 4Runner would have been a no brainer for us.

2017 TRD OR Premium, love it. The fake leather sucks if it's hot out and you're not using the AC, you'll sweat for sure. Didn't get the 3rd row seating, so don't know anything about that. But love it overall and have averaged 22.2mpg over 14k miles. I'd get one again. If you don't need it for any OR use, a Highlander would be worth looking at.

We have some of that fake leather in the Highlander, and I agree that it sucks.

Get the 4 Runner. It won't let you down. Its resale value is as good as it gets. And, it is for a good reason.

Going on tomorrow to seal the deal....too many positives outweigh the few negatives I have found on these...picking up a 2018, sr5 premium w 3rd row in the granite color....my wife is pretty dang excited so that’s always nice- it will be her first Brand new car ever.

I plan to have the dealer install the Toyota running boards and then before this winter will be swapping out the crappy Dunlop tires for some Michelin’s.

Friend has the Dunlaps. They do ride smooth in the summer, but leave a lot to be desired in the snow.

For looks, the TRD Pro wheels are nice.

That was first thing I did to the wife's. Swapped the SR5 wheels and tires onto my daughters 4runner and bought the wife TRD Pro wheels and Cooper AT3 tires. They look real nice on there.

Sealed the deal last night...backed down to a standard SR5 as my wife didn't like the leather feel and we just couldn't justify the additional $2500 for the premium model as compared to the benefits over the regular sr5 (she can use her phone if she needs navigation and doesn't care for a moon roof). It charcoal colored, 3rd row, and came with Bridgestone Dueler HT tires. Its a pretty slick little SUV - feels a lot more like a truck than an SUV to me.

Basically broke even on the Tahoe - Crazy how much Domestic cars/suv's depreciate. (Trade in offer was inline with KBB projections) Final price before tax on this one was $35290 which is pretty good. Also got the dealer to include a lifetime oil change package in the deal at that price. Overall we are excited. Between my 2018 Tundra and this - we may not be car shopping for quite a while...lol

I would still like to swap out the tires - but can I expect much from these Bridgstones? Since my wife will drive 98% of the time on pavement, probably will look at the Michelin or Possibly the new Falken Wildpeak AT.

Toyota navigation systems suck big time, she's better off without it.

Congratulations on the new ride!

The navagation system does suck in my 2018. I think the standard SR5 is the best value. I got the premium for the sucky fake leather. I have 3 labs that shed and it is much easier to clean.

You should be happy with it. 4Runners are still body-on-frame construction so may be why it feels more like a truck.

Have never been impressed with Bridgestone tires. Michelins are usually good, but you might take a look at the relatively new Continental TerrainContact A/T. I've had a set on my 2013 Tundra since last fall and I'm pretty happy with them.

Toyota nav leaves much to be desired, but isn't useless. Since you didn't get it, it is a non issue. Bridgestone's are a soft ride and with 4WD will go thru most routine suburban snow. See it all the time around here, but far from a first choice for a serious snow tire.
