Saw this recently http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2018/08/its-official-saami-approves-hornady-6-5-prc-and-300-prc/ Curious if there is any scuttlebutt circulating about rifles, ammo, etc.?? Case capacity maybe between 300 Nosler and 300 WM. Did not see anything in the ammo column at Hornady.com for the 300 PRC today. Seems like a really crowded place to be IMO.

Per the drawing in the link, the .300 PRC seems to be a .375 Ruger case necked to .30 caliber.....it is what was expected after the introduction of the .375 Ruger.....instead we were treated to lesser cartridges that were designed on the assumption that we all wanted compact (short) magnums.

It seems to me to be the easiest way to achieve .300 Weatherby performance form an action that previously housed a 7MM Rem Mag or other standard length magnum rounds.

How the American hunter will receive this development is not in my Chrystal ball....but I'll just say that the hesitation in bring it out back when the .375 Ruger was first making news may be a deterrent to the new round's reception.....How many .300 Magnums do we need anyway?

Dave Tooley has posted a little about the 300 prc on snipers hide. I think he has done a lot of work with Hornady on the cartridge. You should be able to search and find his posts. Personally I don’t see the need for it but can’t complain about innovation and new products

As for myself, I'm perfectly satisfied and happy with the 300 WM. IF it's lacking, I'll go bigger than 300 WBY.

I'm waiting for the .300 Whelen to become a factory round.

I agree elkhunternm,

I always thought a 270 WCF would be great if it was offered in 30 cal.

So basically the 300 PRC is just an updated 30 Newton ?

Might be interesting, wondering if there would be any real advantages over the 30-338 that I've used since the late 1970's?

Could be a new project on the horizon ?

The new 300 PRC will see more new rifles than the 30TC....what ever that means.

The more I look at it as spec'd, a magnum-length long action and an 8-twist barrel are in order...quite different than the parent 375 Ruger. Not so handy a "hunting" package.
