The NYT just announced that the plea deal DID NOT incliude cooperation with Federal Investigators.
And since it is a Federal matter ,Trump can pardon him if he wishes. He won’t get one. Not from Trump..

Just announced, at 4pm EST Cohen appearing in court to plea to charges, agreed with Mueller team on plea agreement. Cohen will flip eventually just like the others but it won't be today. Today he will plead guilty to charges, pay a substantial fine and agree to do some jail time. He will provide information that will be added to the others and it will bring down Trump. But not today. The prosecution is not going to allow a cooperating witness (just like Flynn) to reveal any info that will bring the government to a halt until the prosecution is ready to do so. #Soon

He's got nothin illegal on President Trump, just inconvenient actions that'll be "leaked" (at no risk) by Mulder to try and embarrass the President.

Man, Mueller and his crack team are really lighting it up. We are well over a year and 1 million pages of documents into his investigation and we have so much to show for it. Manafort is the big home run. Mueller managed to go 8 for 18 on him. If this were baseball, Mueller would make the All Star team. Then he got Papadopolous to lie to him. Pop's is ready to scrap the plea deal now. He must no know how good Mueller is or he would be bowing to his countenance. Then he got Flynn to lie to the FBI. Well sorta. The lead investigator on that one said he didn't think Flynn lied. Comey said the same, and we know what a man of honor Comey is. And for some reason or another Mueller has held off on sentencing Flynn four or five times. Hell, I've lost track. But Mueller will always get his man, so watch out Flynn. Then so busy was Mueller making his case on Trump for illegally colluding with Russia that he didn't have time to dikk with Cohen himself. He passed that one on to another ace.
You mark my word. Mueller is minutes away from marching Trump to the gallows. Minutes I tell you. The money we spent on him and his ace team will be the best legal investment this country has ever made. Viva la USSA!

It may have been a sucker play to pull crooked FBI in and later hang the horns on them.

Cohen claiming he acted in concert with and at the direction of Trump in committing a federal election law felony is a very big deal and will be very difficult for Trump to convince a jury he had nothing to do with. Prosecution of Trump while he is in office may not be without some severe legal questions that need to be resolved before that prosecution can begin. This has elements of the lead up to Nixon's resignation. The next steps in this dance are going to get interesting.
