This is my designated elk/moose setup.

It’s a Bruno ZG-47 that’s been rebarreled to 9.3X62 Mauser. Barrel is a 21” McGowan that’s been profiled to match the original barrel so as to use the original iron sights. I replaced the the trigger with a Timney and the safety with a Pacific T&G 3-position.

The scope is a Leupold Vari-X III 1.75-6 in Alaska Arms QDs.

I carved the stock and rust blued the metal.

All new unfired rifles 300WM. 7mmSTW. 280AI, and 6.5-06 will be in my truck. I will drive the 900 miles. I will target practice, then I will shoot an antelope, .... by then I will know which rifle to use on opening day for elk.

When I first answered this question.... I said same as last year! It just came to me exactly “how” accurate that statement was, I literally “will” be carrying the same bullet...never fired it! 🤔 memtb

Ha ha. Thanks buddy. I usually don't fret too much over what rifle I'm taking. Just that all my other chit is ready. I think there are other things that are far more important. The rifle and load is the easy thing..

Bingo and thanks. Pre 64 H&H receiver, Brown PoundR stock, 24" stainless Gre-Tan barrel, 4 round mag capacity, midnight blue cerakote, 8 pounds all up.

Well, that rig won't work. The scope is in QD rings and might fall off. Plus, it doesn't have enough magnification.

The barrel is too short, which will cause a needless loss of velocity. The bullets are bound to bounce off as a result. Provided, of course, they even make it to the target.

And a Bruno Mauser? Too heavy - your shoulder will fall off before you get 50 feet from your vehicle.

The Timney trigger and PTG safety are nice touches, though.

On a serious note, that's a very nice looking rifle. Great job on the stock. Good luck on your hunt!

I too particularly like the stock work.

Harry McGowan made up a couple of LH rifles on 700 actions (about the only LH ones readily available in those days), a .375 H&H and a 6.5-06 with a pencil barrel for sheep. He specialized in barrels, but he did nice stock work too.
