Old son (Postoak Cowboy on the fire), picked up his new poor boy rifle yesterday from a friend who threw it together for him. .40 calibre. Will be fun around the place! I like a .40!

There's just something special about Po' Boy/Southern Mountain rifles. Nice looking flinter!!! 40 is one caliber I have yet to play with in a muzzleloader. It's on my list as soon as I decide which rifle to have it in. I'm thinkin' either a Bedford County flinter or an Ohio Vincent, obviously a cap lock.

Sharps4590,

I had a Bedford style 40 perc for years. I kilt everything here locally with it. Never had any issues. But in a fit of stupidity I sold it about 15/20 years ago. Built me a Christian’s Springs style "Jäger" in .40 last year as I missed my old war horse! Plenty rifle here for deer and pigs woth 50 grains of FFFG.

I've been waffling back and forth between the two rifles for 10 years. I believe once I finish my chemo in January I'm going to make a decision....probably by flipping a coin as I'm so fickle....

Gotta love a nice rocklock! wink

Was going to get a 40 as well, but lucked into a good opportunity on a Berks County style schimmel in 36, and love it.

It's rough on squirrels, though... wink

I kinda figger that our two .40’s may just get a bunch of wood’s time this winter.

I need to fabricate a new hunting pouch for mine. Got a horn all ready!
