This Marlin is an older gun I've had for years. I put a Fajen stock on it decades ago while in my teens, checkered it and more recently drilled and tapped a trigger stop. It has a VX-2 3-9 CDS, the turret set up for the Fed Game Shok 38 gr. HP. sighted at 50 yds. The CDS on zero reads .5 and is graduated on up from there.

The trigger has been tweaked and feels like a match trigger, not a typical 39 trigger.

Very nice.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

It is pretty neat, especially the trigger. I drilled and tapped for a set screw to make a trigger stop. That's not hard to do.

Can't get Fajen stocks any more. I guess that gun represents a bygone era.

I did that work as a teen, am 73, so it's been a while.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice and I would imagine the cheek piece definitely helps with head positioning for shooting it with the scope. Looks like excellent work.

Thanks, cheek piece definitely helps. I was able, with cheek piece, to mount scope high enough to not need an offset hammer extension. No problem getting thumb on hammer.

Thanks,

That gun has been a real laboratory for experimentation over the years. It has plugged screw holes in the barrel for when it was a scout rifle. The tall front sight was for a tang sight when it was a cowboy action practice rifle. It was a companion to my 45-70 Cowboy, also set up like that.

You see the scope bases, one on the barrel, one one the receiver. That's better. IMO, for long scopes than trying to tie everything to a small receiver.

Another story about this gun.

Some years back I got the itch for a Volquartsen .22 short, 10-22. Finally bought one. It had the special .22 short slow twist, heavy SS barrel, aluminum bolt, altered mag. I scoped it and started testing it with a variety of short ammo, target and hunting.

I ran a few shorts thru the Marlin and would you believe, it out shot the Volquartsen, beat it pretty bad. Well that really frosted me. I sold the .22 short barrel, aluminum bolt, special mag, bought a Green Mountain .22 LR flutted heavy barrel and a factory steel bolt, turned it to a .22 LR. My son has it now.

When an old Marlin out shoots a fancy, high end, dedicated .22 short rifle, it's time to get rid of the fancy gun, keep the ole hoss.

I have a similar gun with machined instead of stamped out internal parts. NOT FOR SALE!

Had one of those old ones with the 24in. barrel . It loved Shorts and was quieter than a BB gun.

45-70 Cowboy in its current configuration. Mounted scope as low as possible because of the stock.

Those older 39's are solid. I have '57 and it's built like a tank. Has the 24" barrel, accurate. I don't believe there are any stamped parts on it. Great .22 rifle.
