Up at the family place on Puget Sound.... towed my boat up, spent the day fishin and crabbin. Something about a day on my boat whups my butt. There's a grindstone with my nose's name on it when I get back.

My season should start this Saturday, we'll see.

That just figures. Get an ankle fused, do the rehab, then an ELBOW conks out a week before elk season. WTF? Sounds like my luck! Sorry to hear it.

I say drag that busted wing up the elk mountains. Who needs two arms to hunt elk?!

The old guys let me tag along on a trip across the local mountain range and instead of following a trail I talked them into following a high ridgeline a few miles north then dropping east. We ran into a number of cliffs that didn't show on the maps and had to drop about 500' to get around one of them. I've been wanting to get a vertical mile and ended up with over 6,200' on the first day.

I sometimes forget what a beautiful place I call home.

Nightfall, home is west of the peak

Cliffs - too many of these

Finish line - at the peak left of center we dropped east to the other side of the range

Well, it looks like my elk season is over before it started, at least the early season. Been in the hospital since Monday morning getting IV antibiotics. Should get out later today but I'll have a catheter in my arm to continue the antibiotics. Hate to miss the rut, hopefully I can pick up a late season cow tag, and fill the pronghorn tag at least.

After everything you've done to make the opener that just plain sucks and I'm sorry it's come down like this. frown

Where are they hypothesizing that the infection came from? Those internal infections are weird. Sounds like they are pretty concerned about it.... is it something you got from the ankle surgery that's been latent in your body? My SIL had that happen, in her elbow ironically, though it was contracted through surgery on that elbow. Almost lost the arm to some super-resistant bug born and bred right in the [bleep] hospital.

It came from a small cut on the point of the elbow that pierced the bursa. It was so small I didnt even notice it.

Traded in my muzzleloader tags yesterday, got a bull tag and bear tag for the first rifle season. Should be good to go.

Been away....sorry to hear how this all came about. The good part would be, a few decades previous-and not all that many-this same initial seemingly innocuous occurrence would have killed you. Have fun during rifle and dress warm. smile

True, but the real silver lining would be a nice bull or bear that wouldn't have been there during the early season.....

Would a Royal be enough reward for escaping death thru modern medicine? Or would it take a Monarch?

If I was there you wouldn’t be in this situation. I would have made you up a poltice of tobacco juice, ragweed, Elk dung, and some Colorado gold. Sorry, but I didn’t feel like making the trip.
