First, and most importantly, you need to find out what kind of whisky he was talking about. That's critical for a good choice. Scotch? Bourbon? Canadian? Irish? This is the important question, but Bourbon shouldn't be on the list. It isn't blended.

Laughing.....the Fire. The man specifically said he likes blended whisky and most here want weaselsRus to give him whatever their own personal favorite brand is instead. Yes, by all means, let's make this as complicated as possible. Weasels should give the rancher a second hand lesson in whisky appreciation, make sure the Rancher is qualified as a bona fide whisky connoisseur, then give him what he didn't want. Works every time. Totally agree with you, my thoughts exactly.

So we had an adventure this weekend, lost a belt on our side by side and ended up hitching a ride with a local rancher. Not the first time this gentleman has helped us out. During our drive he mentioned blended whiskey. I'd like to get him some good stuff.
What do you guys recommend? Since he mentioned a blended whiskey I would suggest giving him a 1.75 L. of Black Velvet. I can't speak for others tastes in whiskies but here in central Idaho Black Velvet is the whiskey that most folks drink, its smooth, not much bite, relatively inexpensive and is the whiskey of choice for most of us rural folks. Since he didn't mention a specific brand chances are that he will be happy with about anything you give him. drover

If he's a Scotch man and you want to fix him up, then maybe this one:

I'm certainly no expert on whiskies, although I've drank my share, but I am somewhat partial to Jameson's. I have a hard time believing that someone wouldn't enjoy a bottle of the twelve year old. I'm kind of surprised no one else has mentioned it.

I'm usually in a scrape that makes me really grateful. Really. Grateful. When a bottle of whiskey doesn't seem like enough, I've added nice gloves, a Case XX knife or a gift cert to the local steakhouse to the pile. For what its worth.

Heck, I like Canadian blended whiskey. Crown is a bit sweet for my taste, but if you’re buying it will do just fine. 40 Creek is a little better and Pendleton would be my choice. Your friend, in rural Nevada, probably drinks Crown because it’s available. I expect he would appreciate any of the three.

Blended whiskey is not the good stuff. Straight corn or rye is the real deal!

Yep, most folks seem to like Crown. After a few drinks it is all just whiskey anyway.
I am surprised at all of the recommendations for Scotch whiskies and bourbons since they are more of an acquired taste for most folks, and even then they seem to lean towards specific brands.
Which brings me back to the thoughts that since he mentioned a blended whiskey without mentioning a specific brand then something like Black Velvet, Canadian Mist, etc would probably satisfy him.

Blended whiskey is not the good stuff. Straight corn or rye is the real deal! That brush is far too broad.

Though I would say whiskey or whisky. Yes, the closest & on the right track, however, your "ey" or "y" are still to broad !

I’ve seen the name Teachers thrown around but never tried it. There’s a stigma against blended but I know good stuff must be out there. JW is proof that not all blended is bad, and given that they are the most popular, it’s almost certain they aren’t the best.

Blended Scotch Whiskey - Johnny Walker green or Dimple. Canadian Whisky - The upper levels of 40 Creek are great (Right 3 - Their cream is crap - Copper Pot Still is my starting point if drinking straight & barrel select if mixing). Bourbons, for the most part, aren't blends. Irish Whiskey Blends - I prefer Tullamore Dew 12yo over Jamesons

Bourbon, for the whole part, isn't blended.

If you want to get technical,...it's not even Bourbon unless it comes from Kentucky.
