Has anyone had any paintless dent repair done? How satisfied were you with the outcome?

I have had one small job done but have seen more than that and knew some people that learned to do it when it first started. I'll say the results completely depend on the skill of the guy doing it.

Many years ago, a vehicle that I no longer own was in a pretty bad hail storm in Dallas. I did some research and found the best rated paintless dent/hail repair shop in Dallas. They did an incredible job. There was absolutely no trace that the vehicle had been pummeled by hail - it looked as good as it did before the hail storm. Do you research, read the reviews, talk to other people in your area that have used such a service.

I imagine the results depend on the type of dent you want to repair as well.

I was a PDR guy for 22 years in the DFW area and had a retail dent shop in Keller for 10 years. (I am in software now) I can tell you that with the right repair tech you will be VERY happy. If you are in DFW I can recommend someone that is honest and does a great job.

I have a friend that travels and does it when there are hailstorm. I have seen his work and it is better than conventional body repair if the dents are fixable and not too large.

I have also seen his apprentice/helpers work. I wouldn't trust him to undent my beer can if I squeezed it too hard.

My Jeep got hammered pretty good in a hail storm about 8 years back. My enclosed motorcycle trailer was parked next to it during the storm. They did a excellent job on the Jeep. I didn't bother doing the trailer. Looking at them now one would never believe they were parked next to each other at the time.
One thing I have noticed is where some of the big hailstones hit, it must have cracked the paint a little because now I can see little spiderwebs in the spots. I just started noticing it last year. If I wax and buff it you don't see them. The Jeep is a '99 with 200k on it so I am not that concerned about the looks I just want to be sure that rust doesn't start.

I repaired and painted conventional for 12 years. I’ll take PDR by a good tech anyday over conventional unless the vehicle just needs a new paint job.

A walnut fell and hit the hood of my car while I was driving down the road. It put a pretty good dimple in it.

A PDR guy removed it for $150. You can't see where it was.

I know a guy that does an excellent of dent removal and he'll tell you up front that the paint on the big dents may crack because the paint may have separated from the metal.

The Ford body shop here did the work on my pickup when a horned cow decided to fight it's own reflection in both passenger doors.

The body shop knew right away that one door was fixable with the paintless method. The other one had to have the door replaced.

The old door looks as good as the new one. Both are fixed fine.

My experience was 1000% positive. For $250 he knocked out 5 dents and you could never tell they were there.

It's an art, mixed in with a little bit of magic. I've seen some PDR guys that I wouldn't use, others are worth their weight in gold. I use a guy that stays so busy that he won't come to my shop anymore because he can't afford the 20 minute trip each way, so I take client's cars to him. He's that good.

That is a serious recommendation.

Shop took 300 dents out of my truck in May. Worked like a charm.
