Possible a Rem 700 in 300 Weatherby may come available to me again . Are the chambers in these the same as the Vangaurd ? Or will I be able to get to the lands and still use the magazine ?

If Remington uses the Weatherby Sammi specs (which I would imagine they do) the freebore will be .361". I suppose if the bullet is long enough you might hit the lands but it sure won't fit in the mag box!

Why worry about touching the lands? There are plenty of Weatherbys that shoot accurately with the built in jump.

If you touch the lands with a Weatherby, don't expect to work up to max loads. Weatherby begins with high pressure specs, and as AZ mentioned, typically expected to be loaded with a jump. Loading to the lands will increase the pressure even more.

Ok , I'm trying to warm up to this free bore thing and have been testing accordingly . Just loaded some more this morning . The 7828 SSC has not given me anything for accuracy , going with IMR4831 , last time I tried it , got some three shot groups right at an inch or so , will see how this goes . Thanks , Kenneth

RL 22 works in about 12 I load for , 180 gr. TSX and Nosler Accubonds and partition. Start At. 78.5 and work to 80 gr

If you don't get good accuracy with the next powder try a different bullet. I would suggest the 215 Berger match target hybrid. It has an excellent hunting record and with its hybrid design it is not as seating depth sensitive. Load the bullet to fit and feed from magazine and work up powder charges. I would bet it will shoot without any seating depth tweaking. I have gotten at least 20 different hybrids to shoot in various calibers in this manner and NONE required any seating depth changes. This included a few rifles with jumps to lands of over .150"

Bella1 and I have same experience...load R22 at ~factory OAL and see. Worked in several of my Weatherby chambered rifles...

Ok , went with 72.4 gr of the IMR4831 under the 180 gr interlock , it spread out to two and a half inches , but was in a triangle . So possible it might come together , going to 73 gr next and see if it tightens up any . I think I was at 74 gr before , but didn't want to jump out there to max load , the 74 gr was stretching primer pockets .
Hunting season right around the corner , got to get this thing right soon . Got other guns to hunt with just thought these bean fields around here would possibly make good use of the 300 .
Got some 215's might give them a spin .

84.5 gr IMR 7828 SSC or plain with Nosler 180 BT or AB shoots very accurately in my 300 Wby. I got that load from a fellow shooter after pulling all my hair out trying to find the accuracy which had evaded me for 430 rounds. Rounds 431& 432 with the new load went into the same hole.

Have run that load in three other 300 Wby's and they all shoot well.

Some of my first loads were with this powder using Nosler E-tips , Nosler loading chart showed 84.5 max load if I remember right . I think I started in the middle around 82 or so , very erratic groups , some of the brass when I went to reload agin , and this being fired one time , the primer pockets were so loose the primers would fall out when seating them . Tried 200 gr SGK ' and others , never got past mid load capacity and would damage primer pockets . Maybe I got a bad batch of brass . Other powders gave same results as far as load capacities . Can't see any signs of excessive head space .
Going to give the interlocks another spin and try the Bergers with IMR4831 and IMR4350 . Had it down to about an inch give or take a little but lost the targets and don't remember where I was with that load .

Mr. Borden taught that when you experience premature pressure issues, switch brass manufacturers.

I did with my 300 WSM & it cured my troubles.

Primers ? The primers I have are 20 years old or more . They were vacuum sealed with other primers . Did some loading with the small rifle primers and got excellent groups from my 222 . But as you know I have been pushing a rope uphill trying to get good groups with the 300 .
So I took Reloader 28's advice and tried some once fired Weatherby brass and some of the Remington brass that I have been using but bought some brand new primers yesterday as the old ones were getting low .
Went with the Berger 210's and tried the 7828 again , hell yeah a solid one inch group in a perfect triangle . Then tried IMR 4350 under 180 gr interlock , again a so.id one inch group , but in a perfect verticle . Then 200 gr SGK over 7828 that didn't fair do well .
Anyway , further testing will tell , but looks promising .
Also the Berger was shot with the Weatherby brass and the other two with Remington , that's got me thinking it was more the primers than brass and didn't get any primers shooting loose and the Remington primers were a tighter seat .
Well back to the drawing board and see how it goes .

Mr. Kleinguenther had a pet load for 300 Weatherby. 84.9 grains of 7828. 180 Hornady flat base. Weatherby brass , Federal 215 primer.
I’ve shot that load in Kleinguenther k15’s, Remington KS’s and Weatherby Mark 5’ and Colt Sauer. The load shot great in every rifle I ever tried it in. I know the 180 FB is not the latest and greatest but it will get the job done. Hasbeen
