Jeff, If it needs a home pm me some details pleas. I love it, I’m interested. We had a th or rain in nw WI. Jack and I waited an hour once we got there before we started our deer stand chores. After the work was done we took a wheeler ride for about an hour and a half. Jack got his wheeler to float a deep but small pond. He wasn’t sure what to think.

Man ,I see and hear of all this preparation for deer season going on . My next door neighbor(hunting buddy) is buying corn and bush hogging property. All of the stuff I used to do with him. I just may have to sneak out at least once, maybe twice ,this year to my friend's farm. I know I said I was going to give it up this year but I just see all of this going on and damnit , it's hard after 44 years NOT to get the bug. I just know that I cannot pursue it as I once did.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

There's nothing wrong with slowing down a bit Stan. I bet you'll be surprised at what you see, and what you experience as you gear back a bit. You don't want to get up with the boys at 4:30-don't do it. The deer will still be out there in the woods. It's a bit more chilly than you're comfortable with? Hang back a while and see if it warms up. Last but not least, no one will complain if you just go to be with the guys, and maybe be the bull cook this year. The camp next to ours had one of their old timers who cooked for them for over over 10 years, and he shot all most as many deer right off the front porch as they did from the stands. The last guy out the door always had to load his old 25-35 and put it on the porch. One of the youngsters forgot it one year and of course a nice buck walked through right between the camps. The kid never made that mistake again. As a sidenote, when the old fellow passed, that 25-35 came down to him, and he hunts with it to this day. Hunting doesn't have to be about getting a buck every time. There's nothing wrong with just being there with the guys, and if you feel up to any more than that, it's just icing on the cake.
Have a great time this fall Stan.

Every time you type “bull cook” it makes me laugh like the 12 year old living in my large adult body.

Looking good Paul! We got our deer stand chores out of the way. Cleared some trails, brushed in a few blinds, and put up 3 trail cams. We then walked a 1mi loop that I almost always see grouse on while not carrying a shotgun. Any guesses how many we say while carrying one? Yep...0 At the end of the day we went for a wheeler ride and told jack to throw his shotgun on the rack. The first grassy trail we were on there was a picture perfect shot....big ol grouse sitting right in the middle of the trail without a care in the world. It sat there til he was able to get the shotgun out of the case after a what seemed like a 40 minute struggle. LMAO. It was only funny because I've been in that situation enough times myself. We got a good laugh out of it. He handled it like a champ. He also got to float his wheeler across a hole for a 100' or so. There is always water in that particular spot. Usually up to the center of the wheels. Well this time it was up to the center of the gas tank. He went across before I did, so I didn't get to see the look on his face until I got across. He looked like he was concerned. I asked..."did you float it" He then gave me a 1/2 grin and said, "yeah." He wasn't sure if he was in trouble or not. We had a blast actually.

I got a text from my daughter today. "Dad, when are we going deer hunting?" It caught me completely off guard. She went 2 times 5 years ago and has said a strong "NO" every other time I've asked. When I asked what changed she said, "if I'm going to get a deer, might as well do it now, plus I have snowpants so I'll stay warm." LMAO, like it just happens. So, I guess I'm taking big sis out too.

I can't take this heat. A couple cooler days in recent weeks and us pale skinned savages switch to winter mode.
Now it's 64 and sunny today and I'm miserable. Feels like 120 degrees.

Suck back a bottle of that siracha sauce. It'll induce a good head sweat, that in turn, will cool you down.
Problem solved !

I just dropped Joey off down the road from the house, picked up the neighbor kid on the way. Neighbor kids folks have a bunch of farm land by us with nice tree lines. The kids are walking those lines with the shotguns. Both boys are in a sweet spot age wise where they don't need an adult with and don't need a small game license yet. I just got this picture from Joey. They have a long route to walk yet, hope they get more! (this is sharp tail grouse)

Nice, I love sharptails.
50% bigger than ruffies !
They love the fresh slashes up here, but can be a challenge to get close enough, before they fly off. Usually a good distance.
Bett'n' your 17 would fix 'em.
Good stuff Joe !
