It could have been stuck by Paradise on Mt, Rainer

The Paradise area at Mount Rainier (elevation of 5,400 feet) is known for its snowfall. Paradise once held the world record for measured snowfall in single year in 1971-1972: 1,122 inches (93.5 feet/28.5 meters).

That's the stuckest I've ever seen .

A hunting buddy from Pendleton , Or. told me about them taking a 4x4 truck way deep into some wilderness - tried to get through an area where beavers had put in a lot of work - wet . Truck stayed in there for over a year several attempts were made to no avail . The young owner making his monthly note on a stuck vehicle , finally got it out though .

Lennie ,

Wow 1,122 inches of snow in one year .

Thought it my father's truck. He'd try to go places "just to see if he could". Spent a lot of time digging, pushing, pulling, and cussing.

Not to mention the water weight of it. There is a reason its called Sierra Cement.

An unemployed Jester, is nobody's Fool.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

At what point do you toss in a couple of wild flowers, say a few solemn words and call it a day?

Lennie,

You ain't foolin'.

I climbed Rainier in '74. From the other side but came out at Paradise on 19 July rather than going out the way we came in. Had an injured man in the party. 15 feet of snow still on the ground in mid July! Had to go through culverts to use the toilets. Roads were plowed open, but what a sight to see with walls of snow along both sides.

My two buddies and I had planned on doing the Wonderland Trail, but after looking at the maps and seeing a good portion of it was over 6000' we decided to take the bus down to Tahoe and start our final two weeks of hiking in the Desolation Wilderness.

I'll never forget Rainier. There's a reason Everest climbers train there.

Looks like they needed to wait a couple more months.
