I wouldn't ship a handgun to God if he was in Kalifornia. Even if he was an FFL holder. Too much that can be MADE to go wrong depending on the circumstances.

Even after paying a transfer fee, it's usually cheaper now that UPS and FedEx went nuts.

I live ban state and this [bleep] drives me nuts, people making up their own laws, crazy ideas and stupid notions. It needs to stop. It's bad enough the state is screwing us, we don't need it from people who are supposedly on our side.

This^^^^^is why I start with an FFL who has a copy of the FFL he is sending MY gun to. I am absolving myself of any legal entanglements that arise because of the transfer. I never claimed it was current federal law. The USPS and UPS in my area absolutely will not ship a handgun unless a dealer with a current FFL ships it. Federal law allows me (or anyone else) to ship any gun I own to the manufacturer for warranty work or repair. USPS and UPS pull out a huge policy manual and begin leafing through it trying to find the policy that prohibits anyone but an FFL holder from shipping any firearm. Paying a dealer $25.00 to do the transfer for me is just a lot easier, and avoids any legal entanglements that might snare me. Kalipornia doesn't want any more guns in the state...period. You can get one there, as long as it's not a banned one, and there is the regulation Shrapnel pointed out. I wasn't aware of it because I won't ship a firearm into Kalipornia. I've never researched their state laws governing firearms.

I would sell to just about any other state.

I think that in CA, if you sell a gun to someone and they do something illegal with it, there is a way for the District Attorney to make you an accessory.

I wouldn't sell a muzzleloader to a California resident.

Don't walk away from this, run. California has the worst import restrictions in the country. You have to ship to an FFL and you need a certificate from the California Department of Justice before you can ship. I don't know what the law is about shipping it as an individual, but you won't find many dealers that will deal with California. California wants it this way and you are better off not even trying to deal with this mess...

You don't need a certificate if it's going from a non-FFL to an FFL.

I'd verify his FFL online and ship it.

Mags and guns and all that CA schit is their problem not yours.

That's no joke. Had to abort a ML sale to a guy from DE (IIRC) once because he didn't want to go through a dealer as required by the wacky state laws.

I have always found that if a deal doesn't feel quite right it's best just to walk away.

Last I heard was a Judge vacated that crap law, don't know the current status though. I would ship the mags separately and let the buyer deal with the laws.

That's the FFL's problem. It's not a federal law. You're not doing anything wrong. It's crossing state lines and going to an FFL. That's it.

Everything else is a CA problem.

Some FFL’s require an item these days to be shipped from an FFL because of theft.

Personally, a buyer telling me to ship a handgun non-FFL is a red flag. He shouldn’t give a rat’s a$$ how you send it.

One of the newer scams I heard about is people getting tracking numbers and then changing delivery instructions on the internet...

Over 10 rounds is ILLEGAL in California. Also the precise model of handgun must be on the California Approved List.

This only applies to FFL holders. An individual can ship to a FFL holder.I do not know about magazine size restrictions and would call up the FFL holder you are shipping to.Remember, the advice you are getting here is worth exactly what you paid for it.Call the FFL and get it from the horses mouth.Huntz
