I am wanting to work up a load with the new 7mm 150 gr AB LR bullet. I am wondering if the barrel twist will support that bullet, It is quite long. I did the bore brush measuring bit and came up with a 1-8 twist. It's hard for me to believe Ruger made that fast of a twist 35 or so years ago. This rifle is a tang safety with a red recoil pad. Any Ruger gurus out there willing to chime in. Thanks Daniel

In the late 70's when I still had a FFL, I bought a 280 Ruger 77 and set it up for a friend . (He was on board ship and would be coming home the day before deer season.) I don't remember the scope I had on it, but that rifle was uncannily accurate. .25 MOA with ~150 grain bullets.
I believe that I would have used surplus 4831. Don't remember much more than that and I'm sorry that it doesn't answer your question, but your question brought back memories...
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Those year Rugers were 1 in 9.5 for all the 7mm calibers that they chambered.

That bullet is 1.308" long. Use a bullet calculator online and find out the twist rate needed.
