I loaded 100gr Hornadys before for my boys, but I can't find my old data.
My nephew is just starting so I'd like a low recoil load for <200 yard shots. He's a small statured 10yro. He'll be using my Rem 7.

MHWASH: I highly recommend the wonderful 100 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets for your nephew. My 260 Remington shoots these bullets exceptionally accurately and the lethality on Mule Deer, Antelope, Whitetailed Deer and Coyotes leaves NOTHING to be desired. I use Remington brass, Federal 210 match primers and IMR 4064 powder to attain my very high level of accuracy. Hope everything is well over in SE Washington - my friends from Hay, Washington and Dayton, Washington are leaving from there to visit/Hunt with me very soon. I consider the recoil from my 260 load (in my heavier Remington 700 VLS with Leupold 6.5x20 variable scope) to be extremely mild. Best of luck to you and your nephew, the 260 Remington is a very useful and accurate round. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

H 4895 powder is the way to go. You can use as much as 60% of the max load of H 4895. Velocity will reduce close to that same percentage.

4198 is also good, even lighter than 4895. Seafire has good data on here if you search.
Now with even more aplomb

I'd try the h4895 reduced load recipes. I used it in my sons model 7 youth in 708 /w 120bt and it kicks like a 223. He was a 50lb 9yo shooting it.

+1 H4895 reduced loads using the 60% formula are your huckelberry. The first edition LEE reloading manual has an excellent section on reduced loads, some of the powder manufacturer's manuals and websites have good info as well.

Have you tried a regular factory load to see if it was too much?

When I started out at age 14 varmints (woodchucks) were the primary target by 100 to 1 over deer.
I went from the 222 to 243. Later of course I needed bigger!
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

Well I had 4064 and Hornady 100s on hand so that's what I used.

I guess what I meant was are you sure the full load is too much? My done was shooting .308/.30-06/.280 at the age of 10 and had no complaints.

I’m going to try some H4895 for some 300 Weatherby practice rounds. I’m curious how accurate they will be.

Glad you found something you thought would fit the bill....
for my 260, to use stalking in a woods type environment this year.. I am going with 30 grains of H 322 and an 85 grain Sierra HP...about 2500 fps or so..
good for 150 to 200 yds on blacktails that mostly are antelope sized...
