Knew a guy that had a black lab he used to rabbit hunt. He also would retrieve squirrels shot from trees that feel into thick cover in rough steep terrain.
Eating fried chicken and watermelon since 1972.

I don't personally but have been around a lot of mutts that flush and retrieve with no training.

my attack dog is a rat terrier she got my plumber buddy yesterday, my old lady was trying to hold her while he checked something for me, but she got loose and flew through air and latched onto Carlos's ass.

I live where game birds have dwindled to nothing, so my GSPs and I hunt whatever we can rustle up - rabbits, squirrels, turkeys, bobcats, etc...

my cowdog hunts birds...... The one we had in the '70s was a pointing fool. He loved hunting pheasant, but absolutely refused to retrieve. Also the best eliminator of feral cats to ever walk the state of Idaho.

I use so many for target practice I need a recipe book.
All Pits & Doberman types and the lost posters ALWAYS say “gentle and wouldn’t hurt...”. I actually keep a small plastic pool in the back of my truck to haul them off in. The County sheriff doesn’t want me hanging their heads on a fence post.
