Do any of you have on-game experience with the 147 ELD? How well does it work on deer-sized game?

Shot this Boar at about 200 yards with my 6.5x47 pushing the 147gr ELD at 2710fps. Boar was DRT. Decent sized boar, about 200 pounds.

Shot 4 Sitka deer with the 147 last month. Terminal results (sample size is small on only 4 critters) is exactly the same as the ELDX. Granted this is from a shorty 20" barrel 6.5 CM with a MV of only 2720 fps so thats not exactly that taxing on any bullet even at close range impacts. Not sure how it would do out of the a PRC at 3100 fps MV and shooting something at 50-100 yards. The BC seems to line up true for me atleast as I was having back to back first and second round hits on a 6" rock at 1125 yards on Kodiak after the deer hunting was done just to see how they flew out that far.

I've not yet used the ELD-M 147 on game. I've seen good reports like this one.

There have been accounts where the ELD-M 147 performs better than the ELD-X 143 on WT sized game. The ELD-X may perform better on larger animals.

I would like to hear more info.

Found this on the interwebs. Looks like the ELD-M has a little bit deeper hollow cavity than the ELD-X.

I've had great results on game with the 147's myself.

I'm curious to your on game terminal results. What have you shot with it? How'd the bullet do?

Pig at 500 in the neck didn't exit.

Deer at 60 or so. Pencil in, baseball out.

Bull elk at 75 ish in the neck left a softball size hole and he was down right now.

.260 with a 2,770 launch via RL 26.

Hig,
That is utterly preposterous man. There is no way that a .260 could kill anything except targets.
You better back peddle them statements and say it was a 6.5 CM.

Nice critters by the way,

Thanks Zaga.

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would want a 6.5 Creedmoo when a .260 is all you need..... smile

On another note, that aint the pig I shot at 500. That's one my buddy shot in the ass and I put it down at 20 yards or so behind the ear up there. Made for a great picture. Found the ass end of the jacket in the off side cartilage.

Wondering why no 160 grain bullets? Just thought it was the bullet weight that made the 6.5 famous.

I have shot, or seen shot, around 40 deer and antelope with my Creed, or .260 using 147 ELDMs. The results have been stellar from close out to 405 yards. Generally, I have seen complete penetration, but I did recover the jacket from a doe deer shot at close range, through both shoulders. I use the 129 Interlock for the most part in my .260, but the 147 is my preferred bullet in the Creed.

Honest question:

Do you guys who have used various high BC bullets, including the 147 ELDM, consider baseball sized exits at closer ranges normal/good bullet performance?

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Good to hear!! Thanks for the report. I will say the best bang flop was a 465 yard shot my buddy's wife took with my wife's rifle. Thankfully it rolled down the hill some so we didn't have to climb up as far. I will continue to use them in my short barrel 6.5s for sure. I plan on building a short 16" 6.5 here this winter and it will still be the bullet I use even if its only leaving the muzzle at 2550 fps (18" is getting 2720 so that is likely way conservative) it'll still carry enough velocity to expand further than I would shoot a ultra light rifle.

Awesome stuff!!! Looks highly effective. Have taken moose and bears with the 6.5 CM but with the 143 ELDX variety but good to see the 147s are bouncing off elk.

Thanks for the info.

If you want the bullet to upset consistently at lower velocities, yes.

I haven’t seen exits like that with the 147 yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

My buddy shot a mulie doe at about 60-70 yards last winter with my Creed. He shot her through the lungs and there was a sizable exit wound and a tremendous blood trail, also. She went about 50 yards leaving a blood swath that Stevie Wonder could have followed..

I load that bullet to 2745 in my Creed and 2825 in my .260, both with Re 26. It is my favorite powder for the 147.
