Just watched an episode of KODIAK on Discovery Channel. A hunter and two guides after brown bear...hunter's shot doesn't put the bear down and it charges...first guide's bolt action rifle jams so the second guide shoots and kills the bear in the nick of time. My question is, why didn't the first guide carry his rifle with a round already in the chamber?

I haven't seen the program nor can I know why the guide wasn't loaded for bear but
I do see a great number of rifle/hunter malfunctions on these programs.

Most folks can work a bolt pretty fast. Still hard to fathom at that point in the stalk why he didn’t have one in the pipe ready to go.

Trying to explain why humans do what they do is a lesson in futility imo.

But when the hunter is ready to shoot and you aren’t ? I’d have to chalk that one up to pilot error

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

smile I'll be in touch. If not in Delta, I may be working in the Tok area. If so, I can pop on over in the evening. Safe travels.
