I recently acquired a new 6mm rem that i want to hunt coyotes with. Planning on trying 70-75 grain bullets. I need some suggestions on which powders to try. Thanks....Niel

I used to shoot a 240 Page quite a bit and used 70 NBT's and R19, I'd be for trying that for a combo. The other bullet I would give a run would be the 75 VM.
Good luck to ya!
Curious but where on earth do you go to hunt yotes in Fl.?

Thanks for the info Mark. I live in north Florida, where there is actually a pretty healthy population of them. Kinda like the deer around here, they just started showing up back in the 80's.

When I had my 700 Classic 6mm and my Ruger No. 1 6mm I used a lot of IMR-4350 behind the Hornady 87 gr. BTHP. Today my several .243's get a decent dose of Varget and a 75 gr. V-Max. Knock's em' stiff.

I used to hunt fur with a 6mm many moons ago, so my info is dated. I used 75 grain Hornady hollow points. A pro wolfer who was shooting a lot more coyotes than I was used that bullet and got me started with it after I tried several others. It has a heavier jacket than most bullets, if you cut one in half lengthways to look at it. It also has a pin hole hollow point, the closest thing to a full metal jacket that you can get and still be legal. Hit in the front of the chest with the coyote facing me I didn't get an exit. Hit broadside through the ribs the exit hole wasn't bad.
With any 6mm bullet you WILL get massive explosive damage if you hit much bone, unless you load it down slow or hit the critter out 300 yards or so. If you are not interested in fur, I'd go with a more frangible bullet and punch a BIG hole in the critter.
Coyotes are super tough animals. Unless anchored by a shot that kills within a few seconds, they are tenacious about running away to hide even with mortal wounds. They are right up there with Rocky Mt. goats, grizzlies and elk when it comes to carrying on after taking a hit.
I tried IMR 4350 and H414 and settled on 414 as the powder for that load. I had one odd experience with the 75 grain Hornady, over many many critters. A coyote quartering toward me at about 12 feet range I hit in the front of the chest anticipating a heart shot and exit behind the off side front leg. The coyote dropped like a stone. I was hunkered against a fence post in a scraggly wild rose and had to get through the fence to pick him up. While I squeezed between the tight strands of barb wire the coyote jumped up and ran away. He left no blood trail on the snow and got into thick willow tramped by cattle. Sign at the shot showed a spray of blood, hair and bits of skin that marked the bullet exit, and a two inch spot of blood on the snow where he lay on the exit wound. I surmise that the bullet never opened, missed his heart, and didn't hit anything vital on its pencil through. (It could not have been that I hit him somewhere other than I intended! :-) All other uses of the bullet were excellent.

Accurate 4064 will get you 3600+ with 70 grainers.
H4350 is tough to beat and RL22 & RL19 also work well too.
