Yes, CCI primers are hard.

I've done the same thing many times in the past. If a gun doesn't like CCI or S&B (another hard primer) primers, I switch to Winchester. They are among the softest. They are also easy to pierce so they are not the best choice with floating firing pins.

Have been reloading since 1976. I have used CCI exclusively all that time & never experience a misfire. I'd say I average 1000 rounds downrange annually.

Same here. Only time I had a misfire, it was probably an error on my part. But, I called CCI and explained it and they sent me 1000 primers free.

It sounds like a problem with your rifle. I've never had a problem with any cci primer.

I have used CCI primers almost exclusively for the last three years or so with zero problems, both rifle and handgun, both magnum and standard. I occasionally, when working up loads, will throw in a few Federals, but mostly CCI. I think BSA is right. Probably a gun problem.

Yep, my guess as well. Have been using CCI rifle primers since the early 1970's, and have had so few misfires could probably count them on my fingers and still have uncounted fingers--if I could remember that many.

I've used mostly CCI primers, pistol and rifle, standard and magnum, since I began handloading in the mid-'60s. About fifteen years ago, I got a few misfires with cast bullet loads in a Ruger 77V in .308. I suspect this was limited to a specific batch of primers and it only happened in the one rifle. Hasn't happened since.

I've used other primers over the years, but mostly CCI. With the exception of the described incident, my experience has been that unmolested guns in good condition work just fine with CCI or any other primers.

Just before Remington bought Marlin I sent a Marlin XL7 25-06 back to because of a weak firing pin spring and poor accuracy. They replace the firing pin assembly and re-barreled it. Shot good after that. KH
