Don't know what it's like in Africa right now but I know there were hundreds of roving Sandinistas in Nicaragua at one time and you would not want to cross their path, no matter how much security you had. If there are bands like that in Africa I would worry as well!

Probably, but I suspect the Lady would be safer there than wandering about the US at the moment...safe as houses in the West but I wouldn't care to guarantee her safety in the East.
I'm sure they do have security covered, but it's like seeing everyday life from afar, not to mention disease which no amount of security can protect against. Short of the wildlife, that continent has little redeeming qualities for me.

Have been all over South America North America, and Europe, but not there, nor will I ever be. Defend them all you want.
Merely stating fact: Three years in the sticks complete with a military coup and once twenty miles offshore in a dugout canoe, sometime not seeing another White face for months at a time. No electronic communication with the outside world. Never did have a reason for fear, tho I did get a tad nervous a time or two.
I do hear parts of Central and South America can get really scary, and of course Mexico just about 125 miles from where I am.
