Dang, big hook jaw and everything. And that fish is something else, congrats!

Is there a big fish story that goes with the broken rod stuck under the gunwale?

Good eye! No..... that [bleep] just broke. Okuma SST; nice graphite rod. Weird. Either it was just defective or else maybe it got pinched in the frame of the (folding) passenger seat?! The rod storage holders do put the rod tips up in that general area, though we are aware & careful about that.

I need a bigger boat, maaaan! smile

Caught the fish on my backup rod, which I only brought yesterday to have another rod rigged up in case of massive tangles. The rig we are using- a spreader, big flasher, 8-12 oz cannonball (depending on tidal current) hanging down, then a cut herring behind all that- can form the MOTHER of all tangles if a swivel fails to swivel for some reason. Remember as a kid how the rubber band on a balsa wood airplane would knot, then double-knot, as you wound up the prop? I've seen 6 feet of 40-lb test leader reduced to about 4" of knots like that. Amazing actually.

ETA: now that I look.... the other rod you see rigged in the pic is so when I get bored I can cast towards the jetty for rockfish. Caught 3-4 last time doing that. They are amazing in tacos. smile

We also got around 10 crabs yesterday. Then watched the TNF game at a bar near the port after we pulled out and cleaned the catch. It's becoming a Thursday tradition- and it rocks!

Got some pretty standard "jeffercise" coming up: just took delivery on the metal panels to replace the roof on my shop. Gotta finish the batch of work I've got out there now, which will take at least a week, then good lord willing and the rains don't hit, up on the roof I go to strip off the composite roof on there now, replace I bet a dozen sheets of plywood and do some other carpentry up there that I've learned to do mo' betta than when I built this building 25 years ago (damn... just damn..... getting old!) then install the underlayment and finally, the easy part, the metal.

There will be a whole lot of carrying heavy shït solo up ladders. However, the pitch of the roof is lower than on the house I built so it should be pretty civilized.

But first, a small mountain of castings has to get processed. Bleah.

Met one of my goals today. Since I was still in the Army when I had my accident and was told I'd never run again, my goal was to be able to run 2 miles fast enough to pass a PT test. Headed to the local high school track and gave it a go. My goal was 18:18, and I ran 2 miles in 16:24. My last PT test when I was in I ran a 16:18, so not to bad over 4 years later.

That's where I am at. As season draws near, I fear injury. I'm on the mountain on the 19th. Think I will just do stair climber and yoga until then...no more weights or running.
