I have been trying to free up some space in the safe and get rid of some distractions. I’m at the point where I really think there is a perfect 2 gun battery for everything I’m going to hunt. The problem I keep running into is That I have way to many “pairs”. If I’m traveling I like overlap, and similarity between my main rifle and it’s backup. I have had to use my backup before, but’s it’s more common to be a loaner for a friend.
Now my big game deer/elk combos consist of: 300 H&H and 375 H&H, 308 and 300wsm, 300bo and 300wm.
I like all of them for different reasons, but any 2 is all I need.
I like my H&H’s because they are still factory original and just plain fun to hunt with, but I worry way to much about keeping them nice that it takes away from the fun of the hunt. And I really don’t like lending them out.
I’m actually still working on the perfect 308 to pair with my 300wsm. Figure a 16.5-18” 308 to go with a 24” 300WSM.
I just can’t seem to get to actually owning a hunting rifle battery .

Downsizing has never worked for me. The problem being the, "I like", portion. If, it were a case of "I don't like", that would be easier. I have tried "the perfect" 1, 2, 3, etc. It only lead to another perfect 1,2,3, etc, and projects for The Really Perfect 1,2,3,etc. If I liked them, I would keep them.

As someone once said, need has nothing to do with it. I like guns, and really like nice ones, and good ones (not always the same thing). I enjoy putting a package together and then may or may not hunt it. Good example is the Walmart Vanguard I just finished. Ready to hunt, but has to get in line, and my son told me he may want it for his girlfriend to use, in which case it's out of here.
On the other hand, my new Fieldcraft has all the makings of a keeper, even before I've fired it.
What fresh Hell is this?

Hunt those H&H's! I use my rifles and if they get dinged up it gives me something to do in the off season when I refinish or repaint.
I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all. Jack O'Connor

We can buy meat at the grocery store, so I am not sure how much the word "need" has anything to do with all of this.

Are you telling me that that deer that cost $50/lb doesn’t taste any better then that $10/lb New York?

I always tell the greenies that my meat has a low carbon footprint.

I avoid batteries on any part of my rifle............
I have enough battery driven gear as it is.
