Had a T3 in 270 WSM when they first came out. Never really warmed up to it. Didn't have it scoped like I wanted. Took a mulie with it and it sat in the safe. Moved it uber cheap....lefty stuff can sit forever at times.
I have a semi decent pile of LH rifles. I made the mistake of borrowing a certified scale from work. Weighed all my hunting rigs. I was floored. Even my little 6.5 Predator weighs over 9 pounds all up and that's without my Harris. My go to rifle is a 700 LA in 7Mag in a B+C stock. It's into the 9 3/4lb realm. And I often backpack hunt self supported couple days at a time.
After I add my tripod and 15 Swaros....I am pretty heavy.
With all the rave of the Tikka T3X's......wondering if a 300 Win Mag is "too much of a good thing"? My plan for my next build was gonna be a Manner EH, Proof barrel and action of some flavor. Could maybe dump $4000 on a finished rifle that will weigh the same as a factory Tikka T3X?
Thoughts
Please God, give me some good tags this year....

I run a T3 300 WM for an elk rifle for late season hunts. They are superb. I am not a big fan of hard kicking rifles when it comes to trying to shoot precisely, so I put a brake on mine. Having owned a good number of T3s, I think they are a pretty smart way to go if they meet your needs.
THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL. The Tikka T3 in .308 Winchester is the Glock 19 of the rifle world. The website is up and running!www.lostriverammocompany.com

Tough decisions!!! Any idea what your goal weight is? And are you set on a 300wm?
I don't have any 'uber' lightweight guns. I did built a Rem 700 in 7RUM with a Edge fill mcmillan, proof sendero lite 26" and APA brake. It has BDL bottom metal and wears a nightforce NXS 8-32 and with 3 rounds loaded Im closer to 10lbs than 9!! It is hard to get guns uber light. I could trim some fat on the scope and rings but it shoots and handles great and most folks grab it thinking it'll weigh 15+ and it's great to watch their face as it almost floats away!
I don't own a Tikka but isn't the main issue with them the OAL of their magazines for seating out long bullets and they have some odd twist rates for cartridges. I think to get a stock made for a lefty Tikka would probably take forever too.
I've been in the same mental debate about a real lightweight gun and if I'd be willing to get a right handed Kimber and save the $2500 difference that it would cost to get a custom left gun built to 5-6lbs.

By too much of a good thing....I mean coming in TOO light for a Win Mag. I'll have to look at the twist rates and see if they're serviceable. I don't have any goal benchmark for weight. Just lighter than 9.5lbs. Guess I'd just have to take the plunge and get one and see how it feels. MS is pretty much the exact rifle combo I am speaking of.
Obviously the barrels can pulled and threaded.....which means the action can be re-barreled down the road if need be?

For me it is doable but not enjoyable. In stock configuration, it is a bit of a handful. Mine got a laminate stock, metal bottom metal, and a 19 oz scope which got it to a much more comfortable weight.

Left. The stock is from Boyd's. The first one they sent me had some inletting issues. They quickly made it right.

The Tikkas shoot good but a lot of people complain of the recoil because of the light weight . I don't own one but this is what I've heard over the years from owners.

Is that DNZ a low? Or medium? Lows. It weighs in at 8.75 now. As I originally had it set up it was 7.5... factory stock, 1" low DNZ's, and a Z3 3-10x42.

I have a LH T3 in 300 win. mag. I am considering selling. Nothing wrong with it- great gun, but I just don't need a 300 mag. at this time. I have a LH McMillan swirly stock for it as well as a factory stock. I did a bunch of upgrades like fluted bolt, shroud, bottom metal, action screws, etc.

I'll put a link here to the ad once I get it posted. Decided to sell it with just the factory stock (with Limbsaver), cause I have another T3 I need the McMillan for. But, it will come with all the upgraded items.

With bullets being the way they are now there is no need for the big magnums these days. A 300 mag that light isn’t something I would want to shoot. 280 ackley is plenty enough case compacity for anything that walk in North America
