Good afternoon all,

I have an Ohio built Ithaca 37 that I recently purchased used. I can’t feed the first shell into the magazine tube without first racking that shell into the chamber. After the first shell has been racked I can fill the magazine tube freely. I’m not really familiar with pump guns and am wondering if this is a mechanical issue or just an operator error on my part? Other than that issue it’s a darn nice handling little gun.

welcome to the campfire! I am not sure I understand your situation; in order to rack the shell into the chamber, it would first have to be normally inserted into the magazine, eh?

1:Insert shell into magazine tube. (Pump will be in forward position.)
2:Cycle pump-back and forward-to feed that one into the chamber.
3: Fill up magazine tube.

Any other way and the lifter will be in the way and prevent the first shell being placed into the chamber.
