So, when the opportunity finally presented itself in a shallow pool, I figured, well, I'll get one in him and he'll at least get to the bank. He dropped on the spot and I proceeded to hit him a couple of more times. My guide: "Damn, I told you not to shoot him in the water" ...... Me: "You said they always run!".... The last one I personally shot, 2014, a very big one, ran into the brush after the first couple shots, but turned and ran back almost to the beach before sliding into home. Just one root wad between the bear and good photos on the beach. We needed levers to move the bear just a few feet. They weigh less in the water... I've dreamed of hunting Grizzlies for 50 yrs. or so fueled by the stories in Outdoor Life. And if I had of gotten the chance, I would've killed it with a 338 Win Mag...no questions asked. Just because that was the general consensus in all the articles I read and since I didn't know anyone who had a 338 here in LA, it just had a little mystique to it. But that's how I would've rolled...lol.
