I've been getting a lot of coyotes on my trail cams and killed one a few weeks ago while I was bushogging. A deer was hit and killed in front of my driveway earlier this week, so I carried it to a place I figured would be good for the coyotes, but hadn't had a chance to hunt. My son was deer hunting yesterday near there, and saw a coyote eating on the deer. So, I decided to coyote hunt this morning instead of going blackpowder hunting for deer. I had charged up a set of batteries for my FoxPro, but they were not working this morning. Went to a backup set, and they were flat too. So, went looking for a mouth call, and couldn't find anything but an old Knight&Hale call that I never did like. But, figured it would be better than nothing. Good frosty morning, no wind, set up where I could see the field the deer was in, and called twice. Heard blue jays squawking, and here this one comes out from behind and old farm building. First time I've called in a coyote with a mouth call in years. May have to try it again. Model 7 Predator, 22-250, 52 grain Speer HP, does the job every time. I'd rather kill a coyote than a deer......unless that deer is a bigun.

Nice! It’s always gratifying to call one in with a hand-call.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......

Good going James ! I use a Critter Call PeeWee and a manual decoy I made - it's a plastic crappie fishing reel with some 10lb. test green line connected to a squirrel skin plus some feathers I stapled to it . I put it 50-60-70 ft. out in front of me - on top of a small bush with a black cardboard crow cutout on another bush . I call until I see or hear a coyote -or? then just twitch to decoy a bit - critters forget all about where the sound came from when they see the the decoy movement . Bobcats will choose the decoy over the sound , bobcats can do the beam me up scotty kind of travel and just appear standing there looking at the decoy . It's nice to only carry a handcall and a 6oz. decoy set-up when toting an 870 12ga. .
Love model sevens !

Another one from this morning. Same place, coyote dropped within 20 yards of the one I killed yesterday morning. That makes 3 in the past few weeks within 50 yards on each other in the same cornfield. I called this one in with the FoxPro, and there was another one with it. It got behind a farm building before I could get off a shot. Rifle is my lightweight and tractor/UTV rig....Model 7, 223, 53 grain VMax. Very nice shooting little rifle.

Good shooting and you're right, I'd rather shoot them too.

What a clean simple little rifle.....very nice. And that's coming from a wood stock blue steel guy.
