Are there any special precautions about not scrubbing off the Ti oxide layer?

For whatever reason the Ti bolts/actions are machined on the rough side. Several coats of Ultra Gun Coat on the bolt has helped mine a little. Thinking Cerakote would be better.

From Smith & Wesson not Remington but the same titanium...the coating is natural I believe, the Ti oxide forms when the metal is exposed to oxygen just as happens with aluminum.

I just bought this. I called them about "galling" Lone Peak said if i wanted to put some bolt grease on the lugs but really no extra care is needed on its action. This is brand new technology not like the old Remy's.

Titanium Oxide (TiO2) is present (in atmosphere) on titanium (comm. pure, alpha/beta, beta only, etc) and is the predominant reason why titanium performs well in corrosive environments. Scrub it off, it comes almost immediately back in the presence of oxygen (titanium loves oxygen and most cases, any heat-treatment of Ti alloys requires an inert environment). The layer is microscopic and certainly not some caked-on or crusty layer. Aluminum falls into a similar category..aluminum oxide surface layer.

Would a medium grit polish it with lots of open and closing cycles?. Just work on the bolt flick. Rapid follow up shots are easier when you practice. The grit would be a bonus by smoothing everything. What grit would polish titanium?
