Back a couple of months ago I bought a Larue Ultimate Upper Kit in 6.5 Grendel. Ordered a lower too, but still waiting on it. Not unexpected as they'd told me the wait on a lower was 14-16 weeks. I was going to wait on the lower 'til I shot it, but decided on throwing a Rock River lower on, mounting a Bushnell LRHSi in a Nightforce Unimount on and taking her to the range.

I'd heard Larue tolerances were tight, and man are they. It took several swings with a rubber mallet to join the lower and upper.

This won't be my last Larue UU kit. I'm thinking I need a PredatAR 7.62. cool

It's a much lighter AR than I am used to. At this point I won't be winning any matches with it, but definitely shooting minute of deer. I'll be taking it to Missouri next weekend for the rifle deer opener and hope to see how the 123 grain Hornady SSTs perform on whitetails.

This will blow some minds.

Not a 3 shot group, 5 shot, nor 10, but 7 shots100 yards. wink (it was my last group and all I had left in the mag laugh )

What is it that makes the Larue Ultimate Upper Kit special?

7 shots or not, the group looks good!

Is that their PredatAR barrel or the heavier one?

TWR, that Grendel sports a medium weight barrel versus a lightweight-profiled barrel on the PredatAR. I only have about 60 rounds down the barrel and am confident the gun can do better.

Before shooting the Grendel I had been shooting my Rock River LAR-8 X-1 and my Cooper M22 Raptor - both those guns all up are in the 12-13lb. range. So it felt almost awkward at first switching to a rifle so much lighter. I'm going to have to remember to really practice fundamentals.

You know, MM, for a guy like me who's owned a bunch of rifles, but only 5 ARs, the kit offers peace of mind. What I mean is all the parts are there, ready to assemble, and fit together perfectly. And, of course, it doesn't hurt that Larue has a solid reputation for their rifles.

More experienced guys probably get more satisfaction buying different parts from different manufacturers, and I get that.

Larue has made it simple for us neophytes. smile

I thought it looked heavier than my PredatAR barrel but you said it was lighter so I wasn't sure. I've really thought about buying one myself. For the parts, it's hard to think of anything else that comes close for the price.

Yes, Larue generally makes a good product & that's good shooting for starters.

I haven't but I'd ask over on ar15.com. Lots of Larue fans there plus Mark posts on there frequently too.

(A little late)

Didn't take much heat at all to twist it right off...

If anyone knows someone who needs one, i'll give them a good deal!
