For those like me who have never heard of a Marlin Spike:

Marlinspike
Marlinspike is a tool used in marine ropework. Shaped in the form of a polished metal cone tapered to a rounded or flattened point, they aid in such tasks as unlaying rope for splicing, untying knots, drawing marline tight using a marlinspike hitch, and as a toggle joining ropes under tension in a belaying pin splice. - Wikipedia

For those like me! We knew exactly what it was and what it was for. I have to say, I never used anything as nice as that! Just to be clear though, a marline spike is used with wire rope. A fid is used with fiber rope. Good luck with the sale.

Well, I guess you're not like me.

I do find that trying to be helpful on this site draws criticism. No good deed goes unpunished I suppose.

Not being critical at all. Complimenting a fine tool and offering a little clarification. If that offended you, then you have my apology.

In my world a marlin spike is much longer and not so sharp or pointed on the end. Rather in a spoon type shape on the end. We used them in pairs to splice logging cable. 3 and 4 tuck eyes and long splices in straight runs. Beautiful tool pictured. Good luck with sale.

Thanks JWL3.

Also thanks to the others for the compliments. It's short due to the cost of the material. If I had made it the normal length, I wouldn't have been able to afford the raw material and then no one on earth would have wanted to pay the price for it. This material cost about $100 per 1" dia x 1" in length.
