I've been interested in a 77/17 (77/22 action) chambered in 17 hornet. The 17 Hornet SAAMI MAP is 50,000 PSI. This makes it the hottest round Ruger has chambered this action for.
I talked to a seller at the Spokane Gun Show yesterday who said he had owned two and sent them both back to Ruger because they had headspace and lockup issues in the 17 Hornet.
He said he was throwing away half his brass due to re-sizing issues after one firing.

Could be the round is too hot for this action. Could be he has die or die setup problems. ETC,ETC.

I wanted to see if anyone here around the campfire has experienced this?

The 17 Hornet is built on the .22 Hornet action...not the 77/22 action....

And they aren't "too too".....

Explain the difference. 22 LR through 44 Magnum to 22 and 17 Hornet, they are all rear (mid) locking, rotating face bolt guns on exactly the same receiver, are they not? Ruger changes the bottom configuration to accept the different length calibers. They change the rotating front half of the bolt for RF vs CF and the rim diameter. I'm not knocking the platform. I own two in 22 LR and 22 WRM. I think they are one of the finest light bolt guns ever made.

I just wanted to get a feel for whether anyone was experienced the issues this guy reported with the 17 Hornet I run aftermarket headspace shims in both the 77/22 guns I own. I'm thinking this would solve the issue on the 17 as well.

"too too" ... I previewed the post and everything......DANG. My brain is faster than my fingers.

The difference is in action length, and bolt face size...plus centerfire vs. rimfire...
