38.4 grains of IMR-4064 @3,120fps from my 22” tika puts 5 under a dime at 100yds.

I use it to punch paper, and as a backup deer rifle.

Slower powders will get you another 100fps, but accuracy is not as good and you are wearing out the barrel faster.

I, settled on varget mainly because I have a life time supply and it is accurate in the three 308 based cartridges I load, Have shot many deer with the 85 sierra gamekings and they all just folded except one. The one I searched for hours that night. Next morning found what was left after the coyotes. Short story, found where the bullet had hit a small limb just before it struck the deer. The bullet apparently had begun to expand before impact on deer and did not penetrate enough to effect DRT.
So, I will not use the 85 gamekings where I will have shots through brush.

This is my experience others will vary.

4350 with anything 85 grains or heavier and 4064 for anything lighter.

I have, by accident, been reminded that small limbs will deflect 165 grain bullets from a 308. I won't shoot through brush intentionally.

Pretty much. That's why I'm not too worried about cartridges for brushy areas, if I hit brush it's a crap shoot.

Mikestaten: One of the FEW pre-64 Winchester Model 70's I still shoot is a 26" barreled Varmint Model in 243 Winchester - it loves IMR 4831 with the Sierra 85 grain HP/BT's!
Get outside your "on hand" powders and try this powder - please.
Accuracy is superb with it in my Varmint Rifle.
A suggestion for you from another superbly accurate Varmint Rifle of mine is from my Remington 40-X in 243 Winchester.
I use the Nosler 70 grain Ballistic Tips in this Rifle and it loves BOTH IMR 3031 and IMR 4350 with this bullet.
Best of luck with your Sako!

Thanks for all the tips. As long as I'm getting decent velocity out of the IMR 4064, I'll probably stick with it as I'm very happy with the accuracy.
