My load for my 25-06 that shoots the best is 49 grains IMR4350 and 117 SST’s. Shoots extremely well in this January 1971 ADL with bullets just off the lands (1/4 turn on seating die).
I thought this barrel may have been shot out, but all holes touching at 100 yards is mighty fine, I think.
I had not been able to get this rifle to shoot accurately with several loads I tried up to this point.
My question are: “What’s your opinion on this bullet launched at this velocity for white tail?” (3150fps on my Caldwell chronograph) And “Would you look for a better bullet?”

Not as sexy as the blue tips of my 115 grain Ballistic Tip out of my 25-06, but should work. If the gun likes them, and it obviously does, Go forth & kill stuff. Take pictures.

I think it sounds like too hot. Seems like book max is lower than that?

I been shooting the Hornady 117 gr SST bullet in my 250 Savage for several years now at a sedate velocity of 2660. The accuracy is stellar and the bullet kills just fine. I shoot the Hornady 100 gr interlock and the Hornady 120 gr HP ( both bullets discontinued) in my 25-06. When my supply of loaded 120 gr HP's dry up I will use the 117 gr SST bullet.
Shoot and hunt with the 117 gr SST until you find a reason not to.

Bullet worked well Mule Deer 11/3/18 and Whitetail 11/5/18 - 25-06 - both less than 100 yds. Good penetration, good performance

I ran those before in my 25-06 days. Killed stuff rather well. Ran 117 flat bases,117 RN,120 HP and Sierra 100 BTSP. Of the herd I least liked the Sierra’s. They killed quickly but blew to hell and never exited.

Wow, look at this and make up your own mind. Glad I didn't hit the shoulder. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/gallery/80/full/83841.jpegThis was the entrance wound. The exit was a small hole.

Was that with a pre-beefed up SST? Looks like it but maybe not.
The Inter lokt BTSP works so well I have no urge to experiment and the price is good too.

I have no idea about vintage. But I’ll have a table at the Sioux Falls gun show and I’ll have about 10 boxes of SST’s for sale. 6mm and 25 cal. The 95 gr. Bullet was one of the two most accurate bullets in my 6mm’s so far. But with that performance I think Hornady has permanently lost a customer for their SST’s. Luckily I have plenty of Interlock bullets in 25 caliber which some moron at Hornady felt to stop making. If I use a 6mm or 25 on game, Partitions come to mind. I might be buying some accubond’s too.
One clue on vintage. There are two style of boxes for SST’s. These bullets came from a box that was the newer of the two.

That picture looks like my experience with 150 SST, in .308, at mediocre velocity. I will never use them again. Plenty of good, reliable, consistent bullets out there.

I borrowed my buddy's 25.06 to shoot my first Aoudad in west Texas. His factory load of choice was pleasing to me, as it was the Hornady Superformance 117 gr SST. I have had extensive and highly successful experience with taking a lot of deer with the SST bullet in 30.06 and 7mm Rem Mag in the past. I shot a big ram broadside at about 80 yards with the 25.06 and my friend who owns the ranch immediately told me to be prepared to shoot again due to the reputation of toughness of the Aoudad. That big ram just kind of staggered in a tight circle and went right down.
I believe a well placed shot will be rewarded every time with your set up.

There’s many other bullets that are much better! I’m a big fan of Interlocks. The only bullet in the same ccaregory as the SST, in my opinion is a Sierra. I hit a doe in the shoulder - shooting a 165 grain Sierra - the bullet didn’t enter the rib cage. I have no time for bullets that perform in that manner. They would be good for blowing up crows, I guess.

Never had a problem with the SST in my 25. They are doing 3,360fps chronoed 4 meters from the muzzle. All the deer and pigs I have shot with them were either dead on the spot or a very short run. Have never recovered a projectile as they were always thru and thru. Very accurate in my rifle giving 0.9 inch grops at 200 yards. Thought of trying a different projectile but thought why the SSTs work. My son uses a 308 loaded with 150gn SSTs and we have only recovered on projectile in 4 years of him using it. It was recovered from an 80 odd kilo boar. Lodged just under the skin after penetrating both gristle pads, destroyed the internal on the way thru. Retained weight was 117 grains and a perfect text book photo. Bob

The 2nd to last Hornady bullet ever shot at a deer from a 25.06. Never made it to the boiler room. Next shot was the spine and while it worked it blew up also as only a few shards of jacket were found. Still got 2 boxes of those 93 vintage 120 grain specifically designed for the 25.06 and big game hunting. 🤣 I use em for junkers shooting paper which is the only thing I am sure of that they don’t blow up on.

Swifty: Are those 120gr Hornady bullets that performed so badly, their 120gr Hollow Point Interlock? Or were they some sort of special limited production? Thanks.
Also, I'm wondering if the folks who had such bad experiences with the 117gr SST were using current production or the ones when they were first introduced? MD has mentioned several times that Hornady has "toughened up" the SST line of bullets, not unlike what Nosler did with their Ballistic Tips

The box itself doesn’t say interlock. Just 120 grain HP #2560. No they weren’t one time or special run.
