Considering one for carry and practice. It will get 5k a year or more run through it. Anybody have one ? Any pros or cons about it?

I'm going to get one. The best Glock equivalent out there imo. I want another 9mm pistol around that is shootable and won't make me cry if stolen. I used to conceal a G19, the Security 9 should be the same. Only downside is the price of magazines.

Never handled one, so my opinion is not set.

But right now,
I would buy a trade in G23 before I spent similar money on a Ruger.
There are reasons Ruger doesn't have a longterm successful defense semi.
They haven't made junk guns, Ruger just doesn't do that.
They haven't made a great designed/executed one yet.
There are some contenders in current production, but, they are still evolving
models.

The Mk series of 22's are currently produced classics.
They haven't hit that mark with a centerfire yet.

I actually get confused with all of the centerfire ruger pistols today.

In 9mm there is the lc9, the ec9, the security 9, the ruger American, and the sr9

Obviously the lc9 and the ec9 are the same basic platform. I don't know why anyone would chose the ec9 when the lc9spro is available for <=$250...

Anybody knowledgable that feels like explaining the difference in the Sec9, the American 9, and the SR9?

Ruger, like S&W, has cranked out a number of designs trying to interest the gun-buying public. None are really bad, just different. The Security 9 benefits from three major Ruger decisions: (1) Design - they up scaled the LC9, (2) They duplicated the most popular American form-factor of the Glock 19. (3) Price - the Security 9 sells for less than half the Glock 19.

The Security 9 is a good first gun for a handgun noob. The EC9 is a terrible first gun, but a pretty decent concealed carry weapon (almost as good as the PF9). Ruger has got some winners now.

OK, yeah...

And I watched a couple of youtubes on the various iterations. The American sounds like the best of the bunch, but all have their constituents and believers.
If I needed or wanted another full sized economical range gun the Security 9 might well head that list.

Hmmmm....

OK, it's a 4" barreled 24 oz plastic fantastic handgun. Is the glock 19 considered full sized?

And consider my signature line...

The G19 is a compact.
The 17 is full size, and the 26 is subcompact.
Not sure what the 43 is. Little?

They call the G26 the Baby Glock. That makes the G43 the Fetus Glock.
