I have wondered this for a while so I thought I'd ask. I still hunt by choice, and have been fairly successful so those of you that hunt this way or hunt in crunchy snow how do you get where you want to go without alerting every deer in the woods. It was particularly crunchy this year and in three and a half days of hunting I saw exactly one deer and heard no shots, very atypical.

Can’t help ya on that. We don’t have that problem around here very often. In fact, we rarely get to hunt with ANY snow on the ground. 😀

Dealt with it yesterday by driving elsewhere where there wasn’t any snow. The deer in that crunchy snow were so skittish they were jumping up 300 yards away. Not kidding.

Some of the well known trackers claim they “Keep On”. Not me. I’d rather sit at that point.

Same conditions here right now. Only thing I can think to do is get to the place I want to be well ahead of time and sit tight.

Good lord it's been loud walking this year. This last weekend in particular, temps at or just below zero in the mornings, good snow cover but nothing fresh, sun has settled the snow and it's super loud in the mornings. I just get the walk over with as swiftly as possible, get to my spot and settle in.

Something clever here.

And let the other hunters make noise to keep deer on the move
