There has been some discussion on whether berger hybrids are suitable for hunting. I have shot many deer with them. My wife shot a mature white tail deer a couple of days ago with my 243. The shot was about 75 yds with the deer facing us. The bullet hit the buck in the upper brisket dropping instantly. It broke the first 2 ribs going in. It then travelled 26" through the lungs and liver coming to rest just under the hide behind the last rib. The bullet had a perfect mushroom shape that looked much like a accubond. I have found these bullets before but usually just the jacket. The bullet is going 3000 fps. They continue to perform very consistently on game.

That had been my experience too, until this one. I have always got good penetration, but with this bullet, the core, and jacket stayed together, complete with petals on the side.

The hybrids still fragment in the frontal portion of the bullet but the jacket and base are thicker and tend to stay together well. They work very well as do the EOL line. I’ve had great success this season with the 195gr in my 28Nosler.

Thanks for the reports. I had wondered how they would do because they don't have the secant ogive of the originals which was touted to provide the delayed expansion. I have some 95 6mm loaded and will give them a try. I was looking for a tougher bullet than the originals so these may work out well.

Yep. It was on Pats recommendation that I began shooting them. In addition to their on game performance, they buck the wind about as good as anything I have seen.

Another fine bullet is the Hornady 105 BTHP. They have made excellent deer bullets for us out of 243's. My nephew killed his elk with that setup this year. She was a giant cow. Shot number one did not make it into the ribs though, as it centered the shoulder and hit the humerus. It took a neck shot to put her down. I don't think these bullets have enough mass to get through an elk shoulder and still take out the vitals, but centering the shoulders on big-bodied deer, they have exited every time for us so far. I try not to shoot for shoulders, as a rule, but schitt happens.

I've had very good results with the 105 Hornady BTHP on antelope, whitetail and mule deer.

Thanks for the info I will try both of these in my 6 AI and bet one or the other should work. I will also try the 103 ELD-H.
