I’ve loved all my dogs, alive and past. It’s always the worst pain imaginable when they go. The biggest mistake I’ve ever made was being so distraught at the thought of losing a dog that I put off having him put to sleep till it was too late, and he had to suffer his death unassisted. It’s sad beyond imagining to see your buddy struggling for his last breaths, and there’s nothing you can do to help him while he’s crying like a little pup. Don’t wait too long.
TRH, I agree. Our Golden Retriever got cancer at 11. He did Ok for a while, but started slowing down quit a bit. He didn’t appear to be in pain, but the vet told us to give him a mild pain reliever twice a day. When he had trouble going outside, getting up from laying down, we knew the time was near. We had the vet come and put him down on a nice sunny day outside. Could he had gone a couple more weeks, probably, but at what quality of life?
I had to have my little Daisy put to sleep today. She was only 5 years old and I wasn't nearly ready for this. She got some kind of intestinal infection this past weekend and the Dr. said before she showed symptoms it was already too late. She was a great dog. She was the runt of the litter and had a bad over bite. But she got past that with a good bit of work and luck. Daisy was one of the friendliest dogs I've ever seen. Going to really miss her...
That's a heartbreaker...and I can relate. I've had to do it a number of times now, and it's never easy. I came to the conclusion that in exchange for one terrible day you get many great days, and it's a great bargain. It hurts like hell on that terrible day and you might think you don't want to go through it again, but I have renewed the contract many times and think I always will---at least until I think I've reached the point a new dog would outlive me.
Sorry for your loss. Hang tough.
Don't be the darkness.
America will perish while those who should be standing guard are satisfying their lusts.
Yep, he caught her, he always does, but she can turn quicker.
Whippets, for those that don't know. Not much can touch them in a sprint. Greyhounds and other large sighthounds (Salukis, Ibizans ) will beat them long distance but the whippets will usuallywin up to 100 yds or so.
When not running they prefer a couch, or in front of the fire.

The desert is a true treasure for him who seeks refuge from men and the evil of men. In it is contentment In it is death and all you seek (Quoted from "The Bleeding of the Stone" Ibrahim Al-Koni)
we have a 2 1/2 year old yellow lab....Bailey...She is fullbred, AKC registered and dumber than a box of rocks.
She has a lot of fun though....My back yard and my neighbors yard are like one in the same...no fence and about 3/4 acre in total. He has a 5 year old black lab named Nylie and her daughter....a 1 year old chocolate, Kayaa.
It's a beautiful thing to stand on the deck with beer in hand and watch the girls play.
We have two now, Lost a Golden Retriever last year and our big girl was lonely so we got a new puppy. Layla the big girl is a BRT, Black Russian Terrier, (google that one I bet it is not what you think..) The new pup is another one no one has heard of, A Nederlandse Kooiker Hundje. A smaller Dutch spaniel, one the foundation breeds for the Nova Scotia Duck tolling retriever.
New addition to our family after losing our Border Collie-Dalmatian mix after 15 years of faithfully following my wife everywhere she went, without fail...New dog is a Pointer/Border Collie mix.
He’s another Einstein dog that is constantly thinking and plotting. We rescued him a few months back, and he’s working out nicely...Named him Danner “Boot” because his head is too big. (Not a Pit Mix)
