Hello everybody and I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving.
I plan on buying a Timney trigger for my Rem 700. I went to their sight and for options you can get the "thin" trigger or the "standard" trigger. What is the difference between the two? I have an idea but I want to be sure before I lay my money down. Thanks.

I see ‘thin’ is 1/4” wide, ‘standard’ is wider than that, google will lead to the answer. Maybe measure the stock trigger width and see what you may like.
Either should be great.

I've put Timney's on several Remington 700's and 7's. Never had a problem on a 700, but had to cut out some of the slot in the trigger guard on a stainless M7 in order to get the Timney to work. The M7 trigger does not have thin rigger option, would have been better if it had. I've always used the standard on the 700's, and they work fine.

Are they difficult to change?

Are they difficult to change? No, Timney has instructions, along with the web. You can always take your gun in pieces to a real gunsmith, should it not workout.

You might want to check out a TriggerTech for your M700. I have one on a BDL that I like extremely well. Just a suggestion.

The standard Timney trigger is a bit wider than a factory Remington. I'll measure mine later today and give the exact width if nobody already has. Changing the trigger out isn't hard, a couple of 1/16" punches (IIRC) or even just one is all you need - drive the two pins out, drop out the old trigger, line up the new one and push the pins back in. There's a bit of finesse to that but no more than assembling a Ruger .22 auto pistol. At worst it's only a two or three cuss word job. It also helps not to drive the pins all the way out, just far enough to free the trigger but leaving them barely in the action. I used the dull end of a drill bit of the proper size the first few times before buying some actual punches. Also pay attention to how the trigger pin holds the bolt stop and spring.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I have installed Timney and Triggertech triggers on Remington 700's, they are both great triggers and very easy to install, just knock out a couple pins ....Good luck....Hb

They are not to change if you have any mechanical aptitude. Just read the instructions until you understand them and look at the action and factory trigger for a minute before you start. Mentally follow the instructions through before you tear into it. My Knight muzzle loader came with a Timney trigger and its nice. Its the only Timney that I have. I've put Jewells on all of my 700's. On a few to the older ones I had to relieve the floor plate/trigger guard just a little to accommodate them. A friend has been buying Shilen's and likes them. The Jewell instructions recommend using lighter fluid to clean their triggers. It seems to work for all triggers.
