I had a Ruger Hawkeye Predator in 22-250 that loved 39.5 grains of Varget and the 40 grain VMax bullet. It shot like a laser and was extremely accurate. However, I rarely used the rifle, so I sold it. I have a Remington Model 7 Predator 22-250, and have been shooting the rest of the 40 grain VMax's that I had loaded up in it. The Remington likes this load also, but I'm out of the 40 grain VMax bullets, but do have some 40 grain Nosler BT's.

Just wondering if anyone has used this bullet in a 22-250, and if so, what powder and weight did you use.

33.5 grains of RL 7 was the fastest velocity listed out of the old Lyman # 47 manual....

that is what my Ruger, Win and Savage rifles in 22.250 verified...

22-250 R-700

40gr. NBT 40gr. varget - Win. case - CCI lr 200 primer .

Used that load on Idaho coyotes -somewhat fur friendly as long as you run it through a lot of meat.

39.5 is Lee max MY RIFLE showed no signs of pressure at 40gr. .

Knocks the snot out of coyotes , probably around 4200fps from my 26'' custom barrel .

John ,
Howdy ..
Do you know the velocity or ballpark velocity on the Re-7 ?
Thanks - Mike

Mike,

Good evening... its running right at 4250 out of the 22 inch barrel Savage... that was the most recent one tested....

been a while since I clocked it out of the 26 and 28 inch barrels I have....but I'm sure its steppin a little hotter...

But it the ACCURACY champ out of my rifles with a 40 grain V Max or Ballistic Tip... or Varmaggedon.

Thank you !

40gr. plastic tip bullets have all shots really well in 3 22-250 barrels for me .

The NBT is a tougher bullet than the V-max & Blitzkings from what I saw on many Idaho ground squirrels & coyotes .

40's for colony varmints and crows but I'm a 55gr. kind of guy for coyotes , two 1-14tw barrels much preferred the 52gr. weight over the 55grainers . 52gr. A-max is a good all around bullet IMO .

I've been shooting the 52 grain Speer HP in this rifle, as I have a bunch of them. It's accurate, kills good, but those 40 grainers shoot like a laser, and I want to use them as well. 39.5 grains of Varget was the load I used in the Ruger, and it also shoots good in the Remington. I'm going to load some of the Noslers up and try them today, and see if they shoot any differently from the VMax.

Heard/read good things about the Speer hp's - good price too .

If you want to join the ''stunt shooter team'' try a box of the Barnes 45gr. TSX bullets , I shot a 70-80lb. piggy through the neck at 75 yards [22-250] blew a golfball size exit , more like a 2'' PVC tunnel type wound . I could look nearly to the entry hole - bloody!!
Stem to stern raccoon test media - should say stern to stem butt entry took most of its neck and head off , would definately be a laser on whitetail deer .

Loaded up some cases with 39.5 Varget and the 40 grain Nosler BT and they shoot to the same POI as do the 40 grain VMax's. Zeroed at 200 yards, shoots about like a laser out to 300. I've killed a few coyotes with the 40 grain VMax, and am anxious to see what the Noslers do. I really prefer a little heavier bullet than this for coyote hunting, but I also call in bobcats too, and you can ruin a cat pelt very easy with a big fast bullet. So, I thought the 40 grainers might just be a good compromise.
